Very good points thanks for that information. Battery has been replaced and all seems well with the Jeep again.

Thanks

Re: GOt a message stating keyfob battery is low. Already??

Tried to replace my key fob battery but can't open the case. I removed the mechanical key first and used a broad head screwdriver to try and separate the halfs and was afraid I was going to break something. Is this the way to replace the battery? The manual made no mention of replacing the battery in the key section around page 14. I have a 2012 GJ Overland V8.

Re: GOt a message stating keyfob battery is low. Already??

Yes, I just did mine this past weekend. Removed the key, then took a wide-flat-bladed screwdriver into the open slot where the key was and twisted. A little disconcerting, but it did pop open with quite a bit of force. Take some time to clean the case and rubber button insert with a damp cloth - I could not believe the amount of dirt and lint in there for a FOB that stays in my pocket 99% of the time. It took a little effort to snap the case back together. Best luck.

Re: GOt a message stating keyfob battery is low. Already??

Thanks Justal - a little premature on my part - saw a YouTube and realized I was putting the screwdriver a little off where it should go. Everything worked out - it is tight though. Since I keep my key in my truck a lot since spring purchase decided to put in a new one just to establish a baseline. Locking the driver door via the door button when I get out takes a bit to respond sometimes so thought maybe my battery was down. Otherwise everything has worked fine.

Re: GOt a message stating keyfob battery is low. Already??

Just had both of mine go out at the same time...I think? My main daily was showing the EVIC notice fob battery low...then I pulled my 2nd out of "storage" only to get the same notice. Is that from the firat/daily key? Or did both go low at similar times. They are 2.5 years old, with one getting 99% of the use. I'm on a trip now so I grabbed the 2nd thinking it would be fine, but the note is still there. Just replaced the battery C2032 tonight and will report back if they went out at the same time or its similar to a code that throws and stays? To me it should be key-dependent...old thread but still relevant! Thanks for posting the fob battery number and info

Side note...I have a different black leather with red stitching setup on my daily (other) key...so went with a silicone case and hook chain (both AMaxon specials)...love clipping it to my belt loop as it doesn't hang down and will never lose it

08Hemi,

If your fob still is not working after the battery replacement, feel free to PM your VIN so I can look into this for you.

Re: GOt a message stating keyfob battery is low. Already??

I only get about 4 to 6 weeks of reliable service out of a key fob battery. Then it's random "Key Not Detected" and poor range. New battery always fixes it.

That sucks! On my 14 I never changed the batter in 50k miles. I'm at 15k miles on my 2015 and haven't had any issues yet. I always use the same fob too..

That sounds like defective FOB. Make sure that you use quality batteries as well. Bought a bunch on ebay and they were all defective. It feels like what fixes your issue is the fact off pulling out and putting in the battery (reset?). Did you check voltage of the battery after you take it out?

In general I'm also finding that if I have my iphone and fob in the same pocket that couses some interference and fob has hard time working.

So I removed the battery from my original fob and am using the spare thats been sitting in my junk drawer. We will see what happens. I wonder if the battery really was low and maybe that can trigger the Jeep to do really weird things?
Anyone else experience things like this?

James

UPDATE: Well so far since removing the battery from my original fob the rear hatch has not automatically popped. So hopefully its nothing more than a weak battery in the fob. I will keep my fingers crossed.
You might have a sticky button that is draining the fob and might explain the random glass pop opens.

It's possible the last time you replaced the battery that it shifted the board just enough to un-stick the button.
