Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Haha wow wait til you hear more.

I kook under again, and it looks like one of the rubber holders wasn't clamped so I had to go back for a 4th time. Service was closed, naturally. I demanded they fix it so they brought me to the back cause they had a used car service guy.

He took a look at it and was like "Wtf whoever did this was retarded". He replaced fixed the rubber cover , looked over the work again and found ANOTHER thing wrong. They routed the ABS wire incorrectly which could have led to it snapping so he fixed that as well. He looked over it a good amount after that and couldn't find anything else out of place. I appreciate him letting me know about the ABS wire cause he could have just left it cause I had no idea how it's supposed to be. I talked to him a lot while he was doing it, and I received a good bit of information from him. When he was doing the work, he immediately saw that there was a layer of grease still visible and told me touse laundry detergent to get it off which I don't mind cause I sure as hell will not be going back there.

He also told me that theres only two people at that dealership that he would trust with his car so that solidified my choice not to go back there. I gave him $10 as that's all I had in my wallet cause he seemed like the only honest guy there.

I also did call Chrysler Corporate to add to my case and demanded it be transfered to a supervisor. The lady on the phone said they will send something called a Red Letter and that higher ups will be notified, the dealership will be called, and something will be done(lol I doubt it). I'm going to push for an extended warranty cause honestly I don't know what else their incompetent techs screwed up.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Got mine back!

Took it to the dealer around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday....was out the door four hours later with a rental Jeep Patriot. They finished it up late on Friday but didn't call me to let me know it was finished...oh well, I called today (Saturday) and it was done so picked it up.

All seems great.....got on the ground to look underneath and took pictures (will review and post later). The grease is all cleaned up and looks great underneath (subject to reviewing the photos of course). They threw in a free oil change and filter (and I didn't even buy the Jeep from them - no wash though). Seems professional and thorough so looks like they have earned my business going forward.

They replaced both "shaft-axle half" part numbers 52124712AC 52124713AC (WD40 was also asa a listed part/consumable). Also, says cleaned wheels of grease caused by axles.

Comments were: "620 found both front axle shafts outer boots came apart , advised from star to replaced front axle shafts .star case # XXXXXX . replaced both axle shafts as per star" and "620 cleaned both front wheels of axle grease and both front wheel well areas and front suspension."

I was told the parts, not including labor, were around $765. This was an expensive warranty repair for Jeep. Unfortunate.

Interesting that the tech said "boots came apart" as opposed to just the clamp came loose. To me it looked like the clamped slipped off. Perhaps that was just his description saying the same thing basically as the rubber was not torn so if you consider the boot and clamps together as one unit then his description is correct.

Just glad to have it back...and took it to the hand carwash place so it is all shiny!

Glad you are square. I find the descriptions to frequently be "off" by my common sense standards, but then again, maybe I'm "off".

Passenger's front wheel AFTER repair.

Anyone know if the clip pointed to with the red arrow is supposed to be that way (not attached to anything except the hose itself, that is, it isn't anchoring the hose to anything)?

Uh, yes, they are supposed to hold that line below it that has the two round rubber barrel looking sleeves with rings at each end.

Wow, they missed both sides. Oy vey! It's just so obvious to a mechanic that a clip holds something! Should be able to just clip them yourself but BOTH of the rubber barrel bushings on EACH line need to go into a clip. Is that a double clip? Heading out for the night so I can't look at it.

Wow - you're the BEST. Thanks. See photo of with blue markings.....the one circled is properly clipped together, the one double arrow line shows the one that isn't clipped together.

Do you see anything else wrong???

I think I can get underneath and just clip them myself and save trip to the dealership...as long as I route them properly but I think here really is only one way for how they will come together.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Here's mine. When I mentioned that 2 on each needed secured it appeared to me that the one up against the vertical fixed control arm was unclipped but it is secured by a single clip.

Just secure that one in the clip as you have it marked and you should be all set, finally

Don't see anything else.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Much much thanks...

Do you know what the two lines are called (hydraulic brake line and a control line of some kind?).

I am attaching your photo with arrows....looks like the small line is attached at three points....not sure if min is attached to the metal part with the single arrow. Will check or go back to dealership and have them do it to make them look bad so they tighten up a bit on the details. LOL

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Got under there to take a look and see. Adjusted the line to follow the main line like yours and put the barrel into the clip easy easy. Just wasn't sure about where the lines should be in relation to yours so your photo helped! All set and done!

Thanks again 14SummitHemi...you are what makes this forum so very very great!!!
