Close on the axle thing. Generically, an axle connects a drive wheel to a differential (not tranny). The driveshaft connects the differentials to the tranny. The front diff on the JGC uses 2 (L & R) half-shafts (axle assy) to connect the wheel hub and the differential case. The differential simply translates power from one direction to a "different" direction.
*light bulb dings on above head* Thank you for that explanation my friend! I totally understand everything. And I think I will just let my Dad express his opinion, lol. I'm just too stressed out over this to pry further about this. LOL!

Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

My "glitch" on my 11/6 build was a bad timing cover causing coolant leak at 250 ish miles. I got em on a short leash on that one. I truly believe the probs discussed on the forums are a normal %. We r just the vocal ones but I still don't like being in the "normal %", know what I mean?

Yes my friend I do know what you mean, and I, just like you don't like being in that % as well. My OCD can't handle it, I'm so stressed out right now, you wouldn't believe it. All I think about is my JGC right now, lol. It really just weighs on me heavily.

EDIT: I just remember something.....as I got under my JGC to take my pics of the CV boots, I found the engine oil pan and oil filter through an opening in the lower engine splash guard, now my question is, is there supposed to be a cover for the access to these things? I noticed it but didn't think anything of it, until the tow truck driver said there should be a cover. Can anyone please confirm if a cover is supposed to be there or not? I did not get a pic of it, I just ASS-umed it was supposed to be that way. lol. Thanks in advance!

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Picked up a new Altitude last Wednesday. Have less than 150 miles on it. Will have to look tomorrow to see if I have the same problem. What is the build date range so far of the CV joint issue? I'm afraid to look....

Nope, just the access hole to scoop up snow and muck in the winter.

I believe some said there was a cover on the very early builds but it was changed for some reason or something. Too lazy to look it up. But no cover now and I do remember there is no way to order or obtain one.

No set cutoffs but reports have been early March thru mid-April...

Also, read the whole thread as it appears a "soon to fail" condition may exist with alignment marks not aligned and grease just barely visible under the boot lip at outer clamp end.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Has anyone who has the issue with the front CV boots checked on the condition of the rear boots? Just curious to see if anyone is having or about to have issues with the rear CV boots. I didnt think to check my rear ones when the tow truck guy came.

It would be nice if there was a cover TypeRod but jeep decided somewhere prior to the 2014s that a door was "no longer required" so you have a nice big scoop under there if you decide to use your jeep as a jeep. There is no factory cover you can buy for it. on road no issues nothing gets in there but the potential is there off road for stuff to get thrown in there, have not seen anyone complaining much to date about stuff getting in there though. If it bothers you like it did me you can make a cover and put on there. I was worried about beach driving and all the sand but its probably not a big deal because folks here do beach driving and have not seem any complaints. Anyway below is what I did to create a door for it last summer if you decide you want one on it.

That's exactly what I want, it fits perfectly and very nice made my friend, well done! But I'm not handy enough to make one so nice! Would you be willing to make one for me? lol! Maybe I'll just buy the V6 belly pan and be done with it, but it will be a hassle come oil change time, for me anyways. I want what you have, just a simple cover to remove and BAM! lol! Thanks for pointing me to your thread!

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

So far, reports are only the FRONT half axles that are affected. They come to the JNAP already assembled and JNAP just takes the already assembled front half axles and attaches them during assembly.

Clearly, a mistake of either grease under the clamp area of the boot causing it to slide off no matter how tight OR the clamp just not being tight enough.

The ONLY acceptable solution is to replace the front half axles. Mine were replaced and all is great now. A hassle and a disappointment, but no reason do demand a replacement vehicle as it is readily repairable like new.
