Will they be able to tell if it is likely to have this issue by looking at it on the lift? It seems like a "we'll know when it happens" type issue. My guy was more than willing to take a look, I just hope you can spot the issue by looking.

My build date is 4/1/14, BTW.
Absolutely. The mess is unmistakable. Just also be sure as detailed in the last few pages of this thread they look at the edge of the outer boot outboard ring area for ANY grease oozing from under the boot edge. Small amount of grease now = BIG problem later (very soon). Not trying to scare, just focus attention.

May your delivery be what it should be, a joyous event!

Dropped her off last monday, and today, still not ready. They said it could be few days or more... nightmare!

Philly and other victims... how long did your jeep stay at dealerships for the repair?

(build date--3/14)

Thanks Summit.

Wondering though if they can tell, by looking at it, whether it will fail BEFORE the grease explosion.

I dropped my Jeep off at night when they were closing, they worked on it the next morning and I got it back by mid afternoon. It wasn't long at all, but the place was a very high volume Jeep dealership so they might have had an easier time getting the parts they needed. Dealer did state that I was the first vehicle to report this problem.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Would anyone expect this problem to cause an alignment or balance issue? I had mine repaired last week and I have noticed a slight pulsation in the steering wheel at approx 75mph. I dont believe it was there prior to the repairs. The tech I spoke with didnt feel that CV joint replacements would cause the car to come out of alignment or balance.

Theyre going to look at it today, I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts.

Thanks!

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Impossible to diagnose over forum but, yes, it could cause some issues. The new axle is a new rotational mass so that is it's own new variable. Is shaft perfectly "in round"? Installed correctly? All bolts torqued correctly, etc..?

Balance should not be affected as wheel was just an on/off. Alignment should be ok so long as tech was not sloppy.

Just go with the basics and have them check it out but don't let them squirm off the hook. No vib at 75 before front end work, now have vib at 75 after front end work, variable is fornt end work. It's the only hook you have right now.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

I specifically asked my service rep if they checked the alignment after the repair was done....he told me yes. So, if he was truthful, then the should have checked your alignment. No doubt I would hold them to adjusting this....and of course it would be a warranty claim regardless.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

I drove it with the technician and he couldnt really feel it. I admit that I find it to be subtle. I cant guarantee that it wasnt riding like this prior to the work they did. He did put it on the lift and inspected things and said it all looked good. I am satisfied with their interpretation for the moment and will continue to monitor. Some of this could just be that I am new to the Jeep and am used to smaller crossovers that ride more like cars. Time will certainly tell and if it gets worse it will be going back..

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

You can add my new Overland to the list. I've been on the lookout for this issue since I picked it up a week ago because so many were reporting it. I thought I was in the clear but I noticed today that the passenger side wheel is covered in grease on the inside. Gonna try to bring it to the dealer tomorrow... so frustrating!

Edit: BTW, my build date is 3/29/14.
