All the more reason to get it in early (thanks to this forum) before they have a huge run on these axles since I doubt they will stop production and give us those!

Best wishes...

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Hey nrb1225 sorry to hear.... Out of curiosity how many miles did you have when it let go? Don't know if you've read this whole thread yet but push for them to replace both. We have real life examples where one was replaced and then sometime later the other one let go. Good luck and keep us posted. This thread is not only extremely informational but it has a therapeutic effect as well!

Some of this could just be that I am new to the Jeep and am used to smaller crossovers that ride more like cars. Time will certainly tell and if it gets worse it will be going back..
Thanks for the update!

I have a little over 600 miles now. I'm not exactly sure when it let go. I was checking religiously the first couple hundred miles and thought I was in the clear when I didn't see the issue. I've been checking less frequently since. Plus, it appears to be only on the passenger side so far which is not a side of the vehicle I'm frequently on. I'm definitely going to push for them to replace both. I actually want to take a closer look at the driver's side before I bring it in to see if there's any hints of grease on the edges.

Check my pics of my vehicle's passenger side (shows signs of grease seepage), on page 18 of this thread. I'm getting both axles replaced, my left boot popped off, but the right side did not, but did show signs of it about to go.

I think I'm in a similar position to the one you were in. I have about 275 miles and since it's my wife's daily driver I force myself to look it over each night. So far so good but I know there's still a large potential for this to happen to mine as well. My build date is April 14. Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Just wanted to post an update on my Jeep...

I dropped it off at the dealer today after work. They had to order the parts for the repair and said it would take 3-5 days for them to come in. They said it can't be driven until it's fixed for safety reasons. So, now I wait to get my Jeep back...

I took a couple pictures before I brought it to the dealership. The passenger's side is the one that's a greasy mess. The driver's side appears to be fine.

I asked if they had any other Grand Cherokees come in with this problem and they said I was the first they were aware of. I can't imagine how many GCs are out there driving around with this problem unknowingly. I definitely wouldn't have noticed it this soon if it wasn't for this forum.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

^^^^^^^^^^^

nrb1225...my friend I am going to make the call...sorry man but your other one is in pre-failure mode...insist on replacement….only my opinion but here's my reasoning...

1) Yellow Arrows……I cannot see any thin outer edge lip of the boot that is clearly visible in Dan_JGC's post repair pic and my non-repaired pic. His pic is consistent with everyone else’s post repair pics.
2) Red Arrows……the clamp that is “failing” due to looseness….yours has a shadow being cast on left edge of clamp and even looks loose..other 2 look tight/seated.
3) Blue Arrow….that “wet” rust on yours is grease on the rust…should be 0.0 grease.

I bet if dealer physically inspects that clamp it will be loose. You need to make them check now so they can also order that axle assembly. Sorry man, bet I ‘m right.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Thanks for your input on this, I appreciate it very much. I have to admit that I didn't notice any of the things that you pointed out on my "good" side. I did ask the dealership to inspect the driver's side while I was there earlier today and they said they would and will let me know. I figured if the passenger's side went that it is only a matter of time for the driver's side based on what others have reported here. I'll definitely follow up with them to make sure they inspect it and insist on replacement.
