nrb1225...my friend I am going to make the call...sorry man but your other one is in pre-failure mode...insist on replacement….only my opinion but here's my reasoning...

1)Yellow Arrows……I cannot see any thin outer edge lip of the boot that is clearly visible in Dan_JGC's post repair pic and my non-repaired pic. His pic is consistent with everyone else’s post repair pics.

2)Red Arrows……the clamp that is “failing” due to looseness….yours has a shadow being cast on left edge of clamp and even looks loose..other 2 look tight/seated.

3)Blue Arrow….that “wet” rust on yours is grease on the rust…should be 0.0 grease.

I bet if dealer physically inspects that clamp it will be loose. You need to make them check now so they can also order that axle assembly. Sorry man, bet I ‘m right.

I'm picking up my grand cherokee limited next week... Are you are to see if the boot will fail before it's driven? Are the factory cv boots just no good, or is it something the dealer can fix on the spot with a new delivery (for ex. Do the boot clamps just need tone tightened or something).. I'm really excited about getting my jeep, but I don't want to drive off only to bring it back in a couple days.

You should ask the dealer to do a physical inspection of the front CV boots while it is up on the rack. They should be able to tell either by the clamps being loose (there should be no movement of any kind) or grease has already worked its way under the boot.

The axles are made at a sub plant and apparently there was a quality control issue that they missed making sure the clamps were properly installed. A really stupid and basic error, but it happened.

If your GC does have the problem, they will simply replace the front two half axles. It is an inconvenience, but stuff happens, and it will be great once fixed if your GC has the problem. In no way should it dissuade you from buying GC as it is a straightforward repair and I am sure Jeep is aware of the matter and doing what it can to get ahead of the problem. We don't know how widespread the issue is, but if you're picking up a GC that has a built date from around 2/15 to the present, it is worth having it checked out before you drive it off the lot.

Print out this forum thread and show it to your dealer to alleviate your concern. Hopefully your new GC doesn't have the problem and you can start enjoying your new GC right away!!!

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Why isnt someone trying to gey some traction with fiat.

I can imagine the pre deliver or pre fail conversations do not go over very well.

Just see the comments when any one contacts customer care and even says 'i have video' or 'it said so on an internet forum'

Further......where are the factory guys.....cant they get a qc person to see this.....or Milous....he must know Someone who could get them to inspect all on dealer lots /

Especially with gm in the news lately.....i would be getting The News on this.

You just spent 40-50k and now you need to beg to get someone to recognize a known issue.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Its not a problem that can be detected before leaving the dealers lot.
All you can do it have the tech mark them & check later on for slippage.

From the factory the CV boot clamps are tight and in place.

They are failing, working loose, or popping off with usage (driving).

Can you elaborate on why you don't think it is detectable from an inspection? I'm not disagreeing with you, just want more information for other on this thread.

-Yours will not / does not have this problem

-All Jeeps built with the problem from April 14th will/are corrected prior to delivering to dealers.

-I don't know the whole story as in I don't know how many prior to that were affected but they will come up with an action plan.

-It isn't GM, Jeep is not concealing a problem for 5 plus years. It was recently discovered and they are immediately acting to fix it TMK.
