Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Finally got my baby back yesterday from last monday. Turned out that i was first person then other 3 customers came with same issue on next day. Luckily i was the first one cos axles are backordered for 2 weeks. Feel bad for those 3 customers.

Based on the short life there may be something identifiable but your parts department should ask their rep before making decisions on either item.

Both of my comments are based on the facts at hand but there is no way for me to know if a specific dealer has a problem part or not. Though there is no official information about this to share, the dealers have contact points to get those questions answered (even though they themselves my not be aware at this time).

I have a GC Laredo 4X4 with a build date of 02/28 (body on frame)and a manufactured date of 03/14 (left the line) as seen in my previous posts with pics. I have 2186 miles and no sign of failure. I posted pics a few posts ago showing the yellow dots on the boot not quite lining up but it seems tight with no slippage and secure as of now. Is there a way to get a more precise start date of the failing boots?

mama mia....not good!

My service advisor had told me a horror story about a back order part for a batch of wranglers that stretched on for months....and it was a simple part. Two weeks is bad enough.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Update on my repairs...Picked up the Jeep yesterday, drove it about 125 miles and I think one of the joints are going bad again. Both were replaced last week. About 60 miles into my trip, started hearing some metal on metal sounds on the driver's side, pulled over and saw some grease around the rim again. The sound is off and on, but noticeable. Both wheels were clean when I left the dealership. Sooo, I guess it is back to the dealership for me...I bought this car last month so I could have it for my trip to the OBX the end of this month, I am not going to be very happy being told I won't have it back for my trip!

Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Oh no, pls update us the second dealer confirms new replacement axle failure as this would essentially confirm (only 1 instance tho) the fears raised just yesterday in this thread.

Replacement axle assy's may very well have been sourced from same bad "lot" that caused problem in the first place....fing eh!

Willx, does Chrysler have control down to the individual piece by serial/lot/whatever on these axle assy's to proactively seek out these bad replacement ones that made their way into vehicles at dealers as replacements? I know we don't have confirmation yet but "where there's smoke..."

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Crap man, thats one post my OCD did not want to read! I'm sorry to hear about this EcoAquariums. I'm worried now for JGC, supposedly I'm getting it back tomorrow. They originally told me the parts were going to take 3-5 days starting from last monday, 5/5. Called last Friday and SA told me parts will arrive tomorrow, 5/12 and should have my car back tomorrow. EcoAquariums, how long did your dealer say your parts were going to take to come in the first failure? Also, if you don't mind me asking where are you located? Just trying to find commons between you and I, maybe we are in the same region, and maybe our dealers will be getting the "new" axles from the same warehouse/shipping location. I have a bad feeling about this for my JGC.

I don't think there are, but has anyone with this problem who has their axles replaced already had a repeated failure?

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

EcoAquariums - Really sorry to hear about that. I know that must be extremely frustrating. Hopefully the dealership will put a priority on fixing yours the next time and put you in front of others waiting for parts. By now I would hope they have containment through the whole supply chain meaning all the bad parts are quarantined all the way from the supplier through the distributors, warehouses, and dealerships. This must be ranking higher by the day on Jeep's "oh sh*t" scale. Hopefully by now they realize how far reaching this issue is and have a plan to communicate to the world how they plan to react to it. Keep us posted....
