Gr8Ness - New vehicle, it would be the least they could do is expedite the shipping.....I'd demand it for sure. I'll fly down with the axles if needed as long as I get a tour of the outback!

Be careful what you offer Dan JGC. Maybe when you deliver the axles you could explain to the service centre how to perform the swap, as I'm sure no-one here will know how.

A tour of the outback requires a thoroughly reliable vehicle. Not sure if the Jeep meets that requirement. Although that is exactly why my wife and I are buying this type of vehicle, so we can do some more outback travel with camper trailer/caravan in tow.

I am sure you would enjoy an outback tour though, one day.

The photo attached shows the "Plenty Highway" in outback Northern Territiory. 100's of miles from anywhere or anyone. (read mechanical help if required)

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Got my Jeep back today! The dealer replaced the passenger front shaft axle half and cleaned the greasy mess... everything looks good. Unfortunately, they didn't replace the driver's side. I asked them several times to inspect it and replace it but they claim "they can't because it hasn't failed yet and Jeep will only reimburse them for parts that failed." Shame on Chrysler/Jeep for not communicating this issue to dealers and letting them know they should be replacing both sides of affected vehicles. I'm going to keep a close eye on it and I'll bring it back in if the driver's side starts showing any grease. Based on what others have said here, it's not a question of IF this will happen but WHEN. I'm just so happy to have my Jeep back that I'm trying to not let it bother me that they didn't replace both sides.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Hey all,

If anyone is still tracking the dates of these failed axles, mine was built 4/23 and it seems to be holding up nicely (knock on wood). I drove 400 miles back to the house from the dealer and all the marks line up nicely on all four boots. This isn't meant to brag or anything at all, just to bracket the dates of the bad axles. Good luck to everyone who's still having issues.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Hey Pilot that's good news. I'm a 4-17 and so far so good. I look at them closely at the end of each day and I'm ready to be disappointed one of these times. I'm pulling hard for everyone with issues. This forum is such a huge help in sooooooo many ways. Will be interesting how Jeep handles this one. Could hear something in the news any day.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Is the build date the date they started building. Or the theatre they finish? Or is it all done it one day I got an email from VOTS on 6 May 2014 saying, "your jeep has been built". Does that mean that May 6, 2014 is my build date? If so hopefully I'll be clear of the CV boot issue.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

JacksonGrandCherokee2014 - Yours is built by now. On the inside of the driver's door is a sticker with information that includes the month and year built "DATE OF MFR(BUILT) (I think this refers to when the frame and chassis are put together) then a MDH (month day hour) which I think is when it is done.....I forget though exactly what the MDH EXACTLY means...such as final final done and just exited the assembly line or not. The important thing is yours is most definitely built, but may or may not have been released from the plant yet (such as pending inspection, etc.).

Thanks.. Dan JGC. I figured it was built by now.. I'm just tryna figure out the date it was built.. It's rumored that all builds after 20 April 14 (or something close to that) will be free of the dreaded CV boot failure issue
