Ahhh, ok, makes sense. In the Durango, you can only get the two speed transfer case with the V8. So all of us V6 owners have the single speed case, which is a pretty sizeable population of the Durango build. And as far as the boards I'm on go, no single speed case Durango has reported the issue.

To all base Laredo owners, by no means meant to imply you have a "stripped" vehicle. A base Laredo is very well appointed fo' shizzle!

A base Laredo beats many a SUV in the market on spec alone.

So many pages here..
Can someone make a list of the affected build dates that have this issue so far?

Ha! That would be me in my stripped-down vehicle Love the thing (mostly) to death, would not want or use any of the fancy gadgets you guys pay 10's of thousands for! My radio has been on exactly 3 times in as many months, I just get in, adjust the heater / cooler, and go.

Update....

SA called and one part is in while other is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. They set me up with a Friday early morning appointment to get it all taken care of. SA said it shouldn't take but a few hours to do the replacement and I should be on my way. Thank goodness...it is almost over!

You are probably one of the few "real" jeepers around.

I am a realtor so I am stuck "posing" with my blinged out JGC.

Hauling the motocross steed to the local track constitutes my "off-roading". It does get a little muddy though.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Thanks to the original poster for making all aware of this. Took delivery, V6 LTD, on 4/10, so far 767 miles, checked both front wheels and no grease. Build of 3-14, MDH of 031503. I will be checking this weekly and probably have it checked by the dealer as I have a Maine trip planned for mid-June; don't need this happening on a logging road somewhere in the north country.

Does anyone know if Chrysler uses just the one supplier for this part, or are there more than one?

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Just a couple of clarifying questions:

We've established that the issues with the CV boots exist in JGCs and Durangos from 3/14 to about 4/20/14. Does anyone have an idea how many trucks were produced in that time frame that could have been affected?

Also, it seems that Jeep knows of the issue and is preparing an official "course of action." Is there a working percentage of trucks produced during that time that have been officially treated with new axles?

My build date is 4/1/14 - smack in the middle of ground zero. I'm just trying to get an idea of what my chances are. I have a ton of driving to do in the next few weeks and I can picture myself at a gas station 300 miles from home and see a mess of grease oozing out of a wheel.

Nice, that was pretty fast (same week right?). I've been waiting since 5/5 unfortunately. So you just drove carefully during that time? Good luck, hope they clean up all the grease for you too.

Yeah, it was pretty fast and the SA said they ordered them from the distributor. I have about 1,000 miles on my JGC and the one clamp is about to come off while the other has started; however I do not have grease yet. To be honest, I didn't really drive carefully and just drove like normal; however once I saw the clamp coming off...I stopped driving as much unless absolutely needed until I get it fixed.

Update..... turns out the left axle is on back order. SA is going to give me a buzz shortly with an ETA. Right one is at the dealer though.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

My update:

Left front axle replaced. Interestingly the SA told me that the CV boot had "cracked" -- it didn't just fall off. They checked all of the other axle boots and told me nothing else needed replacing, so we'll see how it goes.

It took about 6 hours, and they did clean all the grease up (I told them to do that when I dropped it off.)

Crossing fingers no more issues and I can just enjoy my new vehicle!

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

DynamicLA - Did you post photos of the problem CV boot? Perhaps the SA was just being general. All photos that I can remember show the clamp slipped off and hanging toward the wheel. Best wishes that your other CV clamp is good!
