Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

OutsiderWV - Now THAT'S a great report post. To date, since my axle replacement, no issues. I have checked a few times to see if any grease and none so far.

TO DATE, NO REPLACEMENT AXLE HAS FAILED - there was an earlier post about perhaps a replacement axle CV boot clamp had failed, but that was a FALSE alarm...the grease wasn't completely cleaned up by that service tech when he replaced the axles.

I'm wondering as well, whether I would buy this truck again. I know that it's always the luck of the draw when buying ANY new vehicle, but people's experiences are what they know. And right now, I know that my 10 day old jeep has been replaced by a stripped down am/fm, fishbowl Dodge Caravan and I will likely have that as my ride for the next month, with a small break in between while I wait for the right side of my front axle to fail. All while I pay for a car that costs TWICE as much.

Also in my experience, while not the most exciting, my Honda trucks have NEVER lived anywhere but my driveway. Not in 10 years and certainly not in 10 days.

Whatever. I don't even care about the breakdown. What I care about is the way in which they handle them. I've never seen more firsthand how a manufacturing defect has been handled with the corporation coming first and the customer last. It's pretty scary. Any my perception of Jeep was tenuous to begin with. I was ready to be convinced otherwise but that has been a major fail.

Hope you either are able to get out of the car or come to terms with owning it. But I typically lose enthusiasm with new purchases like this over the course of a few years, not a few days. Which is pretty crappy.

Dan ditto on Outsiders and his treatment, we should all hope for the same.

That second failed install was the one I referenced earlier, it seems incorrectly so.
Thank you for clearing that up. It is important that the facts are correct.

Cheers

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

LOL --- OK OK OK everyone put down the pitchforks and torches! You are gonna love the GC even IF you have to deal with the front axle replacement. I really am loving my 2014 so don't fret.

We haven't gotten an update on the TSB or whatever is coming out on the issue. From what we know, it was a supplier issue that in all appearances...and even upon physical inspection of pulling on the boot and clamp...the CV boot & clamp appear normal. Only in operation is the CV boot clamp slipping off.....some slip off very early like mine did and some show rotation (alignment marks are off) and some even show partial slippage. We know one person had one side slip off and the other side appeared fine, was inspected by dealer, then in about a week the inspected clamp came off. All very weird.

The fix is straight forward and readily 100% solvable once the half axle is replaced. It is NOT a problem that comes and goes, is not subject to being "can not replicate", etc.

This is my SIXTH GC and the only one that had a number of issues during ownership was the 1993 which was first year ever built and even those weren't too bad. Since then, all the other five have be great and reliable...otherwise I wouldn't be on my SIXTH GC!!!

We have been told Jeep is on the issue...and I am sure they are as it is costly for them. Unfortunately the dealerships are spotty / not consistent across the brand and may not have any awareness of this problem. Remember, this problem was caught here very early on. I'm not making excuses....just adding some perspective to the matter.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Just adding my 2 cents in case someone is counting. Took my 2014 JGC Limited Diesel 4x4 to dealer on Monday 5/19/2014. Both front axles have CV boot failure. Everything is on back order. Got rental minivan to use until Jeep is fixed. Sent in Internet form to NHTSA about the problem. Not much else to do until I get it back. Hope it is ready before May 3 or I am going to lose a deposit on a campsite I have reserved unless I can talk them into giving it back for a future stay. Build date is April 2014. Don't have body on frame date and don't want to go to dealer until it is ready. Incidentally, this is not dealer I bought JGC from. Just took it to closest dealer for repair as I purchased it fro a dealer 120 miles away. I am usually pretty good at bitching about problems like this, but it's all been said already.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Was looking to pull the trigger on a 3/27 build date overland 4x4 this weekend. Reading though this tread has me reconsidering waiting to possibly just order a 2015 when the order banks open. The last thing I want is an issue to arise right out of the gate.

Any record of issues not arising in the productions months recorded?

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Is there a range of build dates that this problem has been confined to?

Don't believe any forum reports r outside of 3/1-4/14 but we (both forums) r a small sample of population.

Think BennO
Reported one from a 2012 model not his someone else's so it would be interesting to discover if this was only one boot or both.
I don't know if the owner of that vehicle is on the forum Benno might have more info or be able to talk to the owner to discover more.

Cheers

A 3/27/2014 build would have all the early '14 bugs worked out....mine is great....loving it. I did have the CV boot clamp issue, was fixed, have forgotten about it now as I am loving my GC a lot. Am continuing to read and post to this thread just to be helpful if possible, otherwise I wouldn't have given it another thought. This was my one new vehicle issue and that's it.

By the way, I couldn't find any South Florida dealership that would come close to the DC group buy price. So bought in DC, took the Amtrak Autotrain back for fun.

A 3/27/2014 build date or order a 2015, you can't really go wrong. Best wishes.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

I would NOT let the CV boot issue stop me from buying a JGC, it's an easy fix with no long term repercussions. I WOULD plan on having it looked at before accepting delivery and I WOULD keep close watch on it for the first thousand miles or so if I bought one built in the 3/1-4/14/14 range.
