Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

The only thing I can say is for people in the Phila PA area, NJ DE or MD, if you want your car fixed right (this problem or anything else), the tech I use is John Kerwin at Reedman Toll in Langhorne PA..

John is the STR8 Challenger & Viper tech, and is the ONLY one who touches my cars... If you want it fixed by a dealer tech who knows his stuff, its John.

Thats the best advice I can give to all who are complaining about their shoddy service.. Well worth the drive or cost to flat bed it & have him work on it.. MUST ask SPECIFICALLY for John Kerwin & NO ONE ELSE to do the work....

Trust me on this..

Ellis

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

I was under my (6/2013 build) WK2 yesterday just cleaning up and eyeballing things to make sure all is well, and I noticed that outer boot outer clamp doesn't really have a groove that it fits into.. the outer boot inner clamp does..

I'm wondering if on these troublesome axles the outer clamp was not installed and tightened exactly square (given that there is no groove to force it to be square), and when it squared up from road forces in use it was then a bit loose..

just idle speculation..

Well, you may have a loose clamp then as there is definitely an outer skinny lip on the boot for the clamp to seat and square up against.

Others who posted pics in this thread who could not see that outer lip ended up having pre-failure scenarios.

It aint a big lip, maybe 1mm but its there, check yours again to be sure.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Maybe there is supposed to be a groove and the defect is that the boot came without a groove.

I don't know. what I do know is that Jeep couldn't have handled this worse form a consumer standpoint.

Basically, this will be my first and last jeep as I have NO confidence in the company after this episode. And I'm only halfway through the process as they refuse to replace both defective axles at once.

I went into this thing questioning the quality of these vehicles and this has cemented my opinion of these trucks as totally sketchy and the company as dollar driven.

They're well aware of the reputation they've built and that doesn't seem to drive a change. That's a real issue.

^^^^^^^

It typically takes around 3 months for manufacturers to fully understand and respond to an issue such as this. So, don't be too harsh just yet. I've been a satisfied Jeep owner (SEVEN Jeeps 6 GC's and ONE Wrangler) since the fall of 1992 and based on my 1,100 miles in my 14, I'm sure I'll be getting a Jeep again the next time I am in the market for a new vehicle.

I feel your pain as I went through it as well. I personally wouldn't take it back for 1 axle. I would drive it till the other fails or make the other fail prior to taking it to the dealership.

I was pretty pissed about the reliability after having this issue on a week old vehicle. Once it's fixed, it's back to being a pleasure to drive and my confidence has been restored. I just checked my axle shafts yesterday and they are still good as new.

I had a bad case of buyers remorse when this BS happened to me because I traded an awesome Tacoma for my Jeep. It was 100% reliable. Now I wouldn't go back to it.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Yeah, I'm sure I'll get there at some point. It's a little hard knowing that I'm going to be dealing with this sh** for the better part of a month because Jeep won't admit that this problem exists. "It has to fail first." That's like saying "we haven't identified this as a problem so you have to bring it in as a failure before we d anything."

THAT is ridiculous and insulting to our intelligence. And in the meantime, I'm paying for a premium vehicle and driving a stock, piece of crap minivan.

It'll take a lot to get me happy about this thing.

DSYLEXC - Love the photo in your avatar. Is that your GC?

redddog - The minivan is to the GC is like sadness is to joy. You don't really appreciate joy until you have experienced sadness... Or at least that's what the zen master says! LOL

DSYLEXC - If you can get a chance, could you post a photo of the fold flat seat in regular position and when folded flat...just curious to see one.

I have again been in touch with my dealer rehashing this with different sales personnel..... There seems to be no inhouse discussions at all between the different individuals.

If Jeep USA can't get their act together, what hope have we DownUnder.

As I am buying interstate I wanted assurities that if I had the cv boot problem, that I would get a loaner from one of the two dealers in my State or a hire car that JA would pay for.
The sales people were very quiet on the phone and would give no assurances until further investigation.

Bloody vehicle will be landed in Port Kembla around 5th June.
So I want some answers before accepting the vehicle.

Both sales personnel kept intimating that Australian right hand drive vehicles might not be affected.

Thoughts?

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Rocksfly - I doubt the driver handedness has anything to do with this part other than perhaps what day they batch production for right hand driver vehicles. All you have to do is check to see if the axle part numbers are the same or not for lefthand and righthand vehicles. I, for one, would not get too excited about the CV boot issue as we simply don't know how widespread the problem is and I doubt every vehicle built during these dates has this problem. Hope for the best my friend.
