Hmmmm..... that IS interesting... That would mean it isn't a manufacturing issue per se.

major2000 - Two weeks is a really long time. Hope they get it fixed ASAP or can do a temp repair until the parts come in per ^^^^^^^.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

The tie down straps being the problem doesn't make any sense. If that was the cause, this would be an ongoing issue, not just for vehicles built within a one month range.

I agree, except that there are a ton of shipping issues due to winter weather and the oil fields tying up rail lines. If Chrysler had to venture out and hire different companies and/or modes of shipping in recent months, and those personnel didn't get correct training, it could appear that it's only vehicles manufactured in March and April.

Of course, that's pure speculation, but it's a scenario that's possible.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Yep - some newbies or new shipping companies could have messed it up.

Has a replacement actually failed yet? There was a report if I recall that one did but the poster was mistaken and retracted.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

To update, I've had my claim escalated to what I think is the highest level with chrysler. My axle shaft was replaced last friday. I got it back with the alignment way off and a constant squeaking coming from it. I took it back saturday and I got it back that afternoon with the alignment still off but not as much and the squeaking now intermittent and quieter. It's going back on tuesday when some chrysler tech is coming out to help fix whatever the dealer seems unable to.

A big part of me wants for them to not even be able to fix it so that I can get a replacement or have them buy it back. I'm not an entitled person but I really feel like I need to be compensated in some way even if they are able to get everything working properly. This vehicle has been nothing but a huge inconvenience and source of stress.

i suppose its more the servicing dealers fault than anyones but all theyd likely be able to offer me is more service from them which is what caused the problem to begin with argh!!

Alignment marks on driver's side look pretty close and boot is completely dry. On passenger's side the purple marks are about 90 degrees off and there is just the very slightest bit of grease on the edge of the band.
Update on this: the driver's side boot (left photo above that we all thought "looked better" haha) failed at 400 miles. I talked to the service manager at the dealership, he did some research (said there were no TSBs or anything else in the system but his Chrysler technical service rep said they had seen "a few" 2014s affected) and went ahead and ordered both axles for replacement, even though passenger side hasn't failed "yet".

He said parts are on "national backorder" and would have his parts department let me know in a few days what the ETA is.

Assuming the repair is done correctly, I can't complain about this level of service. I get to keep my truck while waiting for parts (we don't drive that much so I'm not that worried about it).

I also credit this forum for my being able to be credible and persuasive with the SM, although maybe it's just me

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Dowtown - Yep the left photo looked like it must have had a lot of rotation of the clamp/band but didn't show any grease yet. Glad they ordered both as the other one with grease showing is most def gonna go too. Best of luck.
