Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Just called Jeep and they said I just have to express my grievances with the dealer and there's nothing they can do. Didn't seem to give one shit about the POS service or the POS vehicles they're selling with known defects. I'm now just hoping I get to drive this lovely subcompact for 30 days so I can lemon it.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Unfortunately in the same boat. Talked with the dealer this morning. Some parts in, waiting on others. Will give me an update on Tuesday. JGC has been sitting at the dealer since May 14.

SA didn't seem to be too concerned and said there is not much they can do because FCA controls the supply of parts.

Beyond disappointed at this point. Really don't have much confidence in the dealer or Jeep but have to deal with it since I made the decision to put my faith in them and their product against the advice of the other half.

Rather than blaming the dealer or FCA, really have no one to blame but myself for buying the JGC in the first place. No one forced me to buy it.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

My wife felt like raising hell so she's on her way to the dealer. I'm not expecting anything but at least she gets to experience the joy of the Nissan Versa on the way. I'm thinking of putting Byers Jeep Grand Cherokee Loaner in the window until I get mine back.

You want to lemon a brand new vehicle that you just bought due to one problem? Are you kidding?? I get the feeling you are not real easy to deal with. That could be the reason you got the response you did when you called to complain.

I have to say I agree with you jp. I mean, come on, it's not like this is an engine, transmission or even some mysterious electrical failure. It's a defective or improperly installed clamp for God's sake. I get that many are frustrated over not having their Jeep, pissed off even, but lemon it because of a clamp? Give me a break.

In my opinion these vehicles are driveable with a leaky boot. No way grease is going to go anywhere and cause a brake issue. Even if it did you have 3 others. Pretty sure if that we're going to happen we've have heard of it by now. Dealers (some anyway) aren't allowing it I know, but I think that's silly and indicative of our over litigious society, one you are encouraging if you go the lemon route.

Ask (nicely) for an extended warranty for your troubles if you must, but go down the lemon law road? No way. This problem is being blown out of proportion IMHO. Easy for me to say though, I don't have it. Then again, are you really being put out that much? You hate your FREE loaner, but doesn't it get you where you need to go?

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Update Number 2 on my one week old Summit.
The temporary fix that was supposed to keep me on the road while we waited for the new part, slipped off. Slinging grease again. Second trip to the dealer on Monday to see how they want to handle it.

Dealer said that Jeep advised them to not allow customers to drive with failed boot.

The fact that there is an issue is okay - things happen. Jeep's failure to be proactive (and at a minimum, acknowledge they have an issue) and communicate with their customers on this issue, not okay.

If you bought a brand new Jeep and then had to take it to the dealer and have it sit there for weeks and weeks with no understanding of when you'll get it back, chances are you'd be pretty upset too.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Hi everyone,

I'm happy to report that I finally got my Jeep back yesterday morning with the new driver's side axle installed (they actually called me to say it was done on Friday evening but I didn't have enough time to make it to the dealer to pick it up before they closed so I picked it up first thing yesterday morning). So the final timeline for me with this issue was:

4/29 - Purchased
5/8-5/13 - At dealer for passenger's-side CV boot failure
5/15-5/31 - At dealer for driver's-side CV boot failure

The good: I finally have my Jeep back! So far, so good... No squeaking or alignment issues that others have reported. The grease is all cleaned up, although the dealer didn't do as good of a job on the inside of the driver's side wheel as they did on the passenger's side. I'm probably going to take both front wheels off myself and clean them thoroughly.

The bad: I had to shell out $80 to Enterprise for my rental car from 5/15-5/31. Jeep paid the $35/day rental fee but there was a $5/day security fee that they wouldn't cover. I'll be complaining to my Jeep Customer Care case manager about this. I could understand if I voluntarily opted for a rental car while my vehicle was in for routine maintenance, but they refused to release my vehicle back to me and I needed a car so I had to take a rental car.

The best advise I can give anyone who is still waiting and hasn't been given any solid information in terms of an ETA from their dealer is to call Jeep Customer Care and tell them you want your case escalated. I had called right after I brought my Jeep in for the second time and complained but basically didn't get anywhere. I called again after I was told the part was on back order with no ETA and told them I wanted my case escalated. Once it was escalated to the next level, I started getting a lot more information from my case manager. I even had someone from Chrysler's parts department call me and tell me exactly when the axle would be at my dealer (and the date they told me ended up being true even though my dealer kept giving me different dates when I called them). My case manager also offered me 3 years of oil changes for my trouble, which I know isn't much but at least it's something.

In any case, I'm hoping the fact that I got my axle means the back order is over and everyone who is waiting will get their parts soon. I'll be keeping a close eye on the replacement axles, but hopefully this is the end of my issues!
