I am yet to delivery as well and definitely wouldn't want to start a war with JA (although I will if I have to send it back to dealers after a week of ownership). I am in the same boat as you. My wife and I have had enough time to pull out but we are going to go ahead with the delivery (hopefully next week sometime).
RACE4LIFE you are welcome.

I believe that the majority of us Aussies about to take delivery who may be affected will still move forward.

We do the best research we can and make our decisions based on that. Then along comes a curve ball, followed by another, makes us question the sanity of our decisions.

I'll be buying an extended warranty and am negotiating a fixed price servicing schedule with the two dealers in Tasmania, as this may well be my last vehicle. Certainly will likely own the vehicle for many years unless it is a total lemon.

I am very much looking forward to putting some miles on my JGC and hoping for the best. As they say
"Suck it and see. "

Best of luck.

Cheers

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

RACE4LIFE

JA did not notify my dealer.
This info was determined as a result of me pressing the dealer, who then contacted JA. They advised verbally and followed up with an email to the dealer.
This was not motivated by JA.
Your dealer presumably could contact JA and access the same info.

Cheers

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

My ordeal ended yesterday. Only 6 days out of service. As of Friday, service had no idea when the axle would show up yet it arrives on Monday. Oh well, at least it's done and no new issues seem to have been introduced.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Tomk, thanks for the link. In reading through the last few pages, it appears that some of the replacement axles are failing. Moreover, Dodge owners also are being told that Dodge is unaware of this being a more widespread issue. Wow.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Well, on the "other forum", it appears that someone who had both axles replaced had the replacement axles fail within 200 miles:

Factory defect warning: Grease in front wheels (3/14 build date) - Page 16 - JeepForum.com

Not looking very promising at this point.

Yeah that situation has presumably been replicated multiple times for Chrysler to initiate a recall if that is in fact what is about to happen.

What I'd like to know is of they are no longer sending out replacement axles......... How do they fix what's broke.???

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

The good news is Jeep is taking control of the matter but asking some axle be sent back apparently....that's what people have been asking for. As I had posted before, it takes about 3 months for an auto maker to get a handle on something like this. Recall means just to send it back. Given the cost, there is no doubt Jeep has eliminated the problem and is just doing "clean up" of the problem now.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

more speculation, YMMV:

AFAIK the line hasn't stopped, so either
- the current supply of axles is believed to be good, or
- there is an inspection process to weed out (or rework) bad axles, or
- "the problem" hasn't actually been identified.

I'd guess there are people reading who know more, but can't comment and keep their jobs. That's totally understandable.

Engineering and Quality need to step up their game, though, because people are starting to report impaired braking due to grease falling onto the brake rotor from the inside of the wheel.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Sorry that it has been so long since my last update...I was the one who reported the replacement boot failure back in mid may. I took it back to the dealer and the service manager looked at them and said they had failed again. So back to the old car. So yes, they did fail again and both were replaced. I got the car back on the 23rd, told that both wheels were degreased and power washed. I inspected and saw no grease, just brand new, clean axles. Two days later, took the Jeep to the OBX, did not get a chance to run it on the beach, ocean front house and 2 kids did not give me the opportunity to do much with the Jeep, other than sit on the Ferry to Ocracoke Island. I honestly paid no attention to the wheels while I was there. Yesterday morning, this is what I find on my drivers side....

So call it bad luck for the second failure, but a third time is just absolutely ridiculous...It is my wife's car and she is on the verge of flipping out. Took delivery on April 30th, has spent 17 days in the shop and is going back in the morning again. Speaking to the service manager yesterday, I was told that the new parts last time were not from the affected batch, apparently that was wrong.

So in short, unless these replacements were pulled from the back shelf, there are "new" ones that are failing, so watch out!

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Wow I just brought home my Overland five days ago. It had 11 miles on it when I bought it.

When I saw this thread I ran outside to check my wheels for grease. I have about 300 miles on it.

Did not see anything...

My build date is 4/14.

It is my wife's car and she is taking a long trip tomorrow with our kids. I'll check it again when she gets home. The miles will be doubled at that point.

What's that latest consensus on the affected date range? Am I safe? I worry about the grease on the breaks!
