I took it back to the dealer and the service manager looked at them and said they had failed again. So back to the old car. So yes, they did fail again and both were replaced. I got the car back on the 23rd, told that both wheels were degreased and power washed. I inspected and saw no grease, just brand new, clean axles. Two days later, took the Jeep to the OBX, did not get a chance to run it on the beach, ocean front house and 2 kids did not give me the opportunity to do much with the Jeep, other than sit on the Ferry to Ocracoke Island. I honestly paid no attention to the wheels while I was there. Yesterday morning, this is what I find on my drivers side....

So call it bad luck for the second failure, but a third time is just absolutely ridiculous...It is my wife's car and she is on the verge of flipping out. Took delivery on April 30th, has spent 17 days in the shop and is going back in the morning again. Speaking to the service manager yesterday, I was told that the new parts last time were not from the affected batch, apparently that was wrong.

So in short, unless these replacements were pulled from the back shelf, there are "new" ones that are failing, so watch out!
Mama mia....that is not good. Sorry to hear it. Looks like I'm going to be checking my wheels again just in case too.

From your photo, it almost looks like the clamp is much bigger...as if the connector must have come undone allowing it to open. Dunno for sure, could be the angle.

Any chance you wanna help us solve the mystery and get your hands greasy (or wear disposable gloves). I am curious if the metal clamp is open or can be slid back on. Perhaps the dealer can give you the courtesy - seeing how it happened to you again - to inspect the part on the lift or after it is removed and perhaps the dealer can give you a very detailed explanation on what happened to cause it to fail. Time for some forensic review.

Since replacements have failed (although rare at this point) that kinda throws our the idea that improper use of shipping tie downs has caused the failure.

Thanks for updating everyone on your Jeep.

I'm about ready to bail.

Dealer just don't return calls and now I'm moving to emails to General Sales Mgr and dealer principal as I have received information from another prospective owner whose dealer claims there is no VIN checking process yet my Dealer and a witness salesman both claim JA sent them an email with two VONs /VINs which are affected. They claim I'm not affected as does JA because I'm not on the list.

One dealer claims there is a list/process another claims JA can't tell him anything. One claims Oz vehicles are affected and another says they are not...... That was just the start of it it gets worse but those details are for another time.

I said it before, this is like an episode of Key Stone Cops.

Does anyone know for sure if Chrysler are moving toward a recall.

Can we get some one from this forum who work at the factory to comment. I know this is a major shyte fight But we need more info asap.

My build date is 4/14.

It is my wife's car and she is taking a long trip tomorrow with our kids. I'll check it again when she gets home. The miles will be doubled at that point.

What's that latest consensus on the affected date range? Am I safe? I worry about the grease on the breaks!
I think range everyone is going with is Mar 1st - Apr 14th.

What is your MDH on bottom right of driver door jamb? Your 4/14 is Built Date, April 2014 so you have to use the MDH to get the actual day of month.

Step away from the ledge....at least until you get your GC and it actually has a problem. LOL

I really am enjoying my GC every time I drive it...you won't be disappointed even if you end up with some little issue. Seriously, it is a joy to drive and I look forward to driving it whenever I go out.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Wait mode for the passenger side.

I'm trying to enjoy it while I have it but I believe I would be the vast exception if I only had one side fail. No?

Dunno. There is no certainty that both sides are going to fail. So enjoy and just keep an eye on both once it a while...just look into the rims once a week or so until you are satisfied that they are good. I haven't checked mine in weeks but will sometime this weekend as a precaution. It does seem that when one fails that if the other side were to fail it would be fairly quick in time to failing within the first failure. You're probably good to go...but do check to alleviate any concerns.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

So here's my update.
After finding the initial failure last Thursday (bought it Tuesday) and getting a temp fix using a big ziptie, I noticed on Saturday night that the temp fix had failed. Made a note to call dealer Monday.
Monday morning at 6am, my wife goes into labor 2-1/2 weeks early.

Fast forward to this morning, and we're home from the hospital with a new baby boy. I've got a no sleep attitude and I'm ready to chew out my dealer service rep. Before I could, he calls to tell me my replacement axle is in. I drop the Jeep off at 10am, and they give me a new Durango limited for a loaner. They call again at 1:30pm, and I'm done.

Hopefully I'm done with this, but I'll keep an eye on both the new and the passenger side.

Thanks for the reply! On a side note I see you are in Ohio. I'm down here in Columbus.

My MDH reads: 42820

I checked the wheels as soon as my wife got home this evening. No grease. I also checked the boots and did not see any on them either.

I really feel for those of you having multiple issues. I went through a rough patch with a Nissan 350Z I had. It sounds like Chrysler is at least making efforts to remedy the situation. Nissan told me to take a walk and would not even acknowledge the problem. Thus, I sued them and subsequently won. Very painless process. My lawyer was great and worked it pro bono.

Hopefully it does not come to this for you guys. This is my first Jeep, and my first domestic in many years, and I'm loving it.

However if it does come to a head and you need a referral feel free to IM me.

Sincere congratulations anotherburrito on the birth of your son. Yes, lets hope that you are indeed done with the Grease / Axle issue.

Actually, born and raised in the "bus". Westerville South HS and OSU grad....GO Bucks!

Your April 28th (8pm) actual build date is theoretically clear of the problem date range so looks good for you on the CV boots and also the new cruise control recall that has a 4/17 cutoff date....woohoo!
