Your April 28th (8pm) actual build date is theoretically clear of the problem date range so looks good for you on the CV boots and also the new cruise control recall that has a 4/17 cutoff date....woohoo!
Hey we share a similar taste in schools (OSU grad O-H!), cities (Galena), and trucks .

Glad to hear I dodged a couple bullets on this one. I paid my dues with that Nissan I suppose!

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Got mine back from dealer yesterday (June 5, 2014). Both front axles replaced. Dealer unable to clean off all the grease from underneath the vehicle and behind front wheels. Seems like they only had a pressure washer and no steam capability. Anyway, got it home and took off front tires and cleaned it all up so I can inspect for any future problems. Broke the last stud as I was torquing it down to specs. Went back to dealer and they fixed it in about one hour at no charge. Finally all done. Took almost 3 weeks. Jeep went in on May 91. Finally got to locate build date and it was April 2, 2014 at 9 p.m.
Sure feels better than the mini van I got.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Got mine back yesterday as well after nearly three weeks but only the obviously failed CV boot was replaced. Hoping for the best on the other yet-to-fail CV boot but realistic about the fact that I'll probably be back at the dealer soon. Dealer seemed hopeful as well but said that if/when the other failed, they would try to expedite the repair. Wish Jeep would be more proactive and forthcoming about the problem but that's not going to happen.

Nonetheless, dealer cleaned out most of the grease and washed it for us. Happy to have it back. Going to try to enjoy this truck as much as I can notwithstanding all of the issues and my frustration with Jeep Customer Care. It is a fantastic vehicle when everything works. Given the financial investment I made, it's our primary vehicle for at least 7-10 years.

However, FCA is going to have to show me a lot more than they have in terms of QC and customer service if they are to earn my hard earned dollars again.

He said parts are on "national backorder" and would have his parts department let me know in a few days what the ETA is.

Assuming the repair is done correctly, I can't complain about this level of service. I get to keep my truck while waiting for parts (we don't drive that much so I'm not that worried about it).

I also credit this forum for my being able to be credible and persuasive with the SM, although maybe it's just me
Hopefully Final Update: Waited just two days for parts and overnight for replacement of both half shafts. Only driver's side had failed, but dealer preemptively replaced the passenger side.

Dealership paid for Enterprise rental car (an Avenger).

Service Manager said he used 15 cans of brake cleaner to get all the grease off.

Anyway, seems to drive straight and I'm feeling good again. Hopefully that's the last "bump" I hit with this vehicle.

Dealer was Hawk CDJ in Forest Park, IL and I give them a thumbs up for the way I've been treated so far.

So it appears Chrysler is still shipping axles despite what One durango dealer had told his affected client.

Anyone with a JGC being told Chrysler is no longer shipping axles and a recall is imminent?

Cheers

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

According to Dowtown they are overnighting the parts. So that should help alleviate some concerns that Jeep is doing nothing, etc. Like any vehicle issue, some of it depends on the dealership....some aren't as good as others unfortunately.

Watch your replaced axles like a hawk, folks. Got mine back from dual replacement Monday and today (Saturday) is this.

My condolences.....ouch. Definitely make the repair dealership overnight new parts AND give you a nice loaner (the second request probably won't happen).

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Muidaq, sorry to hear about it - I'm checking mine every day.

Wish we could "make" the dealership do lots of things but their message to me was that their hands are tied and that Jeep corporate is deciding how to handle this problem, not them.
