Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

I picked up my limited on Thursday 5/29, on Monday 6/2 I noticed grease in the driver's side wheel. I called the dealer and they set up an appointment for the 11th (first available loaner car). I have been hoping the passenger side would fail in the mean time. So far it is holding but, you can see that the clamp has moved, the marks don't line up anymore. Just hope to have it all taken care of before my tires come in on the 18th.

If the clamp has moved, that should be enough for the dealer to replace that axle too as there should be zero movement at all. Make sure the dealer sees it and it shouldn't be a battle then to get both replaced at once.

Can you post your build date (MDH on inside driver's door sticker).

MDH is 032609. I guess that means 3/26?

I'm definitely going to point it out and try to get both taken care of. We'll see what happens Wednesday morning.

Yep, that's 3/26 which is right in the range where the issue has been affecting some GC's (and Durango's). They will replace both as the movement in the clamp is a failure even if no grease yet. You may want to take some photos each day to show that the clamp is moving between photos.

All indications are this is a parts production error....as this problem just recently cropped up.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Just to add a datapoint:

My MDH is 030703. My VIN is EC463842. I took delivery 2 months ago today and have ~3300 miles on my JGC Overland.

No signs of any boot grease at all (thus far), but I'm still watching.

And this is one TERRIFIC vehicle!

Thank you, GunnySpook! We need more datapoints like yours to help determine just how widespread this issue is/isn't within the affected range.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

So with the data points so far, is there a "guestimate" on the start and finish of the production run issue??
Trying to look through all the 50+ pages all I'm seeing is March builds.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

I feel very sorry for the guys in that range, but hopeful that my build of May 12th has escaped the issue.
Only time will tell to see if others have the same issue outside those dates..
Rocksfly
Thinking of you and good luck with the pick up in a couple of weeks..
Fingers crossed!!!!

Thanks Mate,

I had a very good conversation with the Dealer Principal today regarding The cv boot and other matters. Feeling more positive and as I told him, he is the only person from his yard who did not try and cut me off or talk over the top of me. He listened carefully to my concerns and said he would advise asap what JA have to say about the CV issue and will advise in writing what my status is.

I'm hoping you are well and truly outside of the affected group.

Stay in touch and let me know how you go.

Cheers Buddy

Rocksfly
