Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Man this whole axle thing BITES. At first it was an inconvenience for me having to wait for and finally give up on my ordered Jeep. Now watching the sheer number of people affected, and the backorder on axles. Ouch, not fun.

Hang in there though guys. The Jeep is worth it in the end, and remember it's not an engine or a tranny. It's "just" an axle and once fixed (please don't let there be any more multi failures) it's fixed. Doesn't help you with the down time I know.

Come on Jeep, get these things fixed!!

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Just got the call from the service manager. Driver's side axle needs to be replaced (thought I told him that this morning), passenger side is not leaking and seems fine (even though the reference marks no longer line up). They claim the axle will be in tomorrow.

If the reference marks are way off, I'd press that issue. But if they can get axles quickly I guess the downside is a second axle replacement visit later but without any long wait.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Hey guys-

I posted a thread out in the forum but figured I would go ahead and post in here too. Back from a trip, I'm noticing some slight metal on metal type rubbing sounds/feeling from the front end, and when going over say a serious speed bump I feel a little of the same type thing in the steering wheel as the front suspension travels. No grease that I can see, but is this a symptom of the CV/axle issue? I do have a March, 2014 build...

Thanks...

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Can't speak for everyone's experience, but there's not been mention of that in this thread. I didn't experience it with either of mine, but I have less than 500 miles between the two bad axles.

I did notice a little "rough" feeling in the left front wheel today, but that was after I noticed the grease for the first time today, so it could just be my imagination...

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Looking into purchasing my first Jeep (GC Overland V6) that is currently in transit to the dealer. They are telling me that the car was scheduled for 5/14/14 and was actually built on 6/2/14. Should that car be clear of this CV issue? Thanks!

From reading this thread in both forums extensively, the problem seems to be with vehicles manufactured between early March and April 14. Mine has a March 31 date, and has the problem. Hopefully by your build date they corrected the issue with the part supplier...

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Just got a call from the service manager. The axle that was on it's way from ny, is now on it's way from michigan. This doesn't sound good.

No signs of any boot grease at all (thus far), but I'm still watching.

And this is one TERRIFIC vehicle!
Since Gunny was brave enough, I'll follow his lead. 2700 miles. 3/5 build date. No grease at all and axle markings look fine (knock on faux wood trim).

PS - I agree. It's been a terrific vehicle so far!!

And me; 2600+ miles, most recent a 1200+ mile trip, no problems with anything. BD 314.
