His dealer has already ordered both front axles.

I pick mine up in a week and expect it will already have misalignment witness marks as did GR8ness' vehicle. We will see. 31.3.2014

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Got mine back from the dealer; they only replaced the driver side axle since the passenger side hadn't technically failed yet. They also replaced the pads and rotor on the driver's side and did a full alignment. I would have liked them to replace both, so I don't have to go back in and do it all over again, but I'm pleased with the service provided and the 1-day turnaround so I'm confident that it won't be too painful when the passenger side goes kaput.

Thumbs up for the service department at Grapevine Dodge Chrysler Jeep.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Has anyone out there who had this repair done (one or both front axles replaced due to failed CV boot clamp), noticed any grinding or rough feeling in the new/replaced side? I can't help but notice an intermittent roughness/grinding on that side since I had the repair done late last week. I've been giving it a few days to see if it would work itself out, new part, etc but it's still happening... I think it's going back to the shop.

Just got mine back today for the passenger side. Hoped I was done, but I'm hearing a high pitched grinding too. Sounds a lot like a caliper dragging to me, but I'm not sure. Back to the dealer in the morning. This will be my 4th trip to the dealer in one month for these axles. I'm pretty pissed at this point. I'm going to angle for a heavy discount on an extended warranty. Cheaper than Ziegler.

Mine is going back in on Monday, as the rubbing/grinding hasn't gone away and I agree, it seems like a caliper that's dragging intermittently. I looked behind the driver's side wheel (the repaired side) and there's still grease caked on the brake caliper and some of the other components there, so they did not do a very good job of cleaning it. And I'm still waiting for the right side to fail.... it's still holding up at 1550 miles.

All,

TSB 03-001-14 - FRONT HALF SHAFT BOOT CLAMP LOOSE has been released.

If I am halfway clever I think I've attached it for all to print off and take to your service department.

Good Luck.

Well that's nice for people that haven't failed yet. Tells the dealer to replace both if their VIN is in the list. Also says (if I understand correctly) that the dealer is supposed to check unsold vehicle VINs and do the repair.

Wish that was out when my driver side went out two weeks ago. It would have saved me additional trips to the dealer.

Good catch mate.
I'm picking mine up Tuesday so there is a list and they said I wasn't on it. Now we will know for sure.

Cheers

Damn, that's a lot of half shafts to be replaced considering how many Durangos and Grand Cherokees they push out each day. I'm sure Chrysler will force the costs back to the supplier, which is gonna be 1 hell of a bill!

Looks to me like ALL Durango and Grand Cherokees built from March 2nd through April 21 are to be corrected. Check your MDH on the front door.
