Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Not a cheap fix for Jeep. If I have to leave mine overnight I am going to ask for a decent loaner (that will be my only request....no complaint over the issue, just a decent loaner).

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

This video might help explain both the cause of the failure (clamp not properly tightened), and why the entire shaft and joint will probably be replaced. Mine was built in April of '13, so I dodged this bullet. The video is a little long, but informative.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

so far sounds like build dates 3/14 - 3/26. I think marlon said they put out about 1200 GCs a day or something like that wonder how many per day are being effected? Even for the people that don't read the jeep garage or ever bother to look under their jeep those CVs wont last all that long once the grease is all out of there they will start making noise when they go around turns. Could get expensive and messy for jeep depending on how wide spread it is.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

I think it more like 1600 per day.

Ahha, the Blue Point YA3080 must not have been working right!!! That explains it!

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

What about all the un-sold units in transit and on dealer lots.

Looks like a bad batch of CV/Half-Shafts from wherever they are made (in JNAP, other Chrysler Plant, 3rd Party). Wonder how big this batch with loose (never crimped down?) boot clamps is?

BTW, I would not worry about reman, re-booted, etc.. You will all get brand-new CV Joint/Half-Shaft assemblies. Nobody is remanning these things and no way JNAP with fart with saving money on a critical vehicle control item.

I know because I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

So it looks like these are all March 2014 build dates?

As of now, but looks like a bad parts batch so Jeep should know through their parts system. Probably not an "assembly" plant issue per se. They probably are already looking into the issue as I am sure this is not a common thing to suddenly come about. I simple minor thing that will be costly for them.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Just got off the phone with the dealership. They said they have to order both axle shafts were ordered but no promises or eta on when I'll get it back.

Severely disappointed.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

called my salesman last night and advised him of the situation. he said take it in to nearest local dealer asap...duh! local dealer ticket writer drone didn't know what a cv boot was nor did he care. he got the mileage off the odometer and that was it. he had the car porter drive it to the back lot. he asked me if i was going to wait for it or leave it. i said i need a loaner because i had to go to work in an hour. he went to go talk to his manager and when he came back he said they didn't have loaner cars but i could wait for hertz to open in a half hour and call them so they could come pick me up. told him that wasn't acceptable. told him to bring my jeep back out and that i would be contacting Auburn Hills. i immediately called and left a voicemail for my salesman. when he called me back, i told him what happened and he said if i could bring it to them, they would pay for a rental but i had to be there before a certain time of the day, which i can't make due to work schedule. i said if they want me to bring it to them, the soonest i could do it on Saturday. i explained again how the grease is leaking out and covering the undercarriage and the front wheels. salesman said that as long as there is no check engine lights i could continue to drive it.

Did they make you leave your GC?

As long as they aren't a hassle on a loaner and give me a decent loaner, I won't be mad. I'm going to call Jeep ahead of time.

I dropped it off on Friday afternoon after work. Their service center was closed apart from one guy being there and the salesman said to keep driving it and come after the weekend.

I told them that's unacceptable for a 10 day old car so the salesman went to talk to the manager and they pulled off a used basic jeep liberty off the lot and gave me that. So for a vehicle with a 44,000 msrp, I'm driving a car that has a sticker of $15,000 on it.

You think a bad CV boot is unacceptable, try an improperly installed trans cooler line that dumped transmission fluid everywhere on an eight HOUR old car, two weeks plus waiting for the part, then no documentation for the dealer techs on how to R&R.

Ok, rant over. At least my dealer gave me a loaner on the spot from their Nissan dealership across the street. It's a tinny little Rogue that cost half as much but at least it's something.
