Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Hey guys, I took my 4/15/2014 build Jeep Grand Cherokee in for some unrelated maintenance and the dealer called me and told me they would be performing RRT-14049 for the Front Axle CV Joint boot issue. Hearing they were going to replace both axles was a bit shocking to hear for a brand new vehicle but once I read through this thread I felt a bit better.

I'll mention that I don't think either of my boots had slipped off the joints yet because I never noticed any grease, but the main thing I am concerned about is, after getting my vehicle back and looking at the front axles they have a ton of surface rust. Why would brand new 1 day old axles look like this:

Do you guys think the dealership didn't actually do the work?

I see your concern. They would look like that after a month or two of travels from Detroit to you via a test drive or two, rain etc...but would newly made ones have solid surface rust? Anybody?

And you can't check by part number since they are the same part number....hmm

Those aren't new. It takes quite a while to build up surface rust like that.

Everyone's suspicion was correct, turns out they didn't replace them. Dealer had my Jeep for 3 days and somehow "forgot" to do that RRT. Funny part is, that is the only reason they kept it overnight... for 3 nights.

It's back at the dealer now, we'll see how it goes this time around

You should 'OUT' that dealer right here... That is a disgrace.

When I had mine done I put new witness marks on the bands and keeping a good eye on them.

Done at 1K now at 4K all good.

Cheers

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

You should check the paperwork from that service and see if it states the repair was done and if Chrysler was charged. If they were, I'd call Chrysler to report it...you may not be the only one.

Given my experience with Jeep dealers that doesn't surprise me at all LOL

Doesn't the RRT say to only replace if they are leaking? The only ones that got replacement were ones still sitting on dealer lots. So doing the RRT could just be an inspection?

Its a VIN based list, regardless of in pipeline or in customer hands. 100% of VINs regardless of symptoms get both half shafts replaced.

Exactly and Waitara had my vehicle long enough to change mine out and they did not. Delivery date was changed 3 times and even on the day of pick up they claimed my vehicle was not affected even though I went armed with the RRT. They still claimed all was good saying they had double checked my vehicle not affected. Took it for a drive came back and showed them the bands witness marks had moved even then they wanted to deny the issue.
Four hrs later I took delivery of the vehicle. Interstate Purchase and I got treated like shyte.
JA acknowledged our rough journey of 7 months during this and all the stuff ups, wrong build colour reorder, again wrong colour, delayed, sat Nav warranty claim on head unit all crap , by changing out the shyte reverse cam finally, then offered us an extra years warranty/20,000km.

Personally I am very happy with the vehicle now it has decent camera, new front axles, an extra years warranty. JA did the right thing by me....... Waitara dealership Alibaba and his crew couldn't lie straight in bed.

Cheers
