Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Just got another call from the dealership saying they didn't get the parts yet and that there is still not eta and basically saying "too bad"

This is completely unacceptable. Tomorrow will be the 6th day, or 38% of the cars life in service. I will be contacting Jeep Corporate. What would be the best way, phone call or email?

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

^^^^^^^

I feel for you....actually I do as I just took my 2014 Summit in and the dealership won't release it as it is a safety concern. Something about the grease could get in the brakes, the axel could freeze up, etc. Seems like this issue is gonna rattle the cage as a safety concern that must be fixed. Shop foreman said no way can it be released. Also, they were shocked at the mess on a new vehicle. It is one of those duh things that should never have happened.

Oh well, Enterprise did come pick me up and I am now driving a Jeep Patriot....not quite as peppy as the V8 GC. LOL And it lacks NAV so I will probably be lost soon and accidentally turn into a canal in South Florida (that's in the news a lot down here....they don't find you until decades later).

At this point I have no idea how long yet as the service tech didn't know about parts yet. The issue was sent to Jeep through the normal channels which will get to engineers, etc.

Will be interested to see how widespread this clamp failure thing is....argh.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

On a positive note, my Enterprise rental, a Jeep barebones Patriot (no sunroof), has surprisingly a lot of head room. I had never driven one before...hopefully I won't have to for very long!!!

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

My JCG is also currently at the dealer for the same issues with the front driver's side wheel. Factory ordered early 3/14 and took delivery on 04/14/14. Seems like more than coincidence for these recent builds.

What day was yours built? Check the drivers door sticker for build date.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

^^^^^^^

A bad batch from supplier (internal or external supplier). The axle side band clamp is paint marked as if that is a verification of some kind, the wheel side band is covered in grease so don't know if there is any verification marking on it or not.

Called my Jeep service dealer and they still hadn't heard back from Jeep on what they are to do for the repair. I'm hoping that I don't have to drive the rental Jeep Patriot ($16K) for long as it is not a great substitute for a Grand Cherokee ($56K).

Doing research I saw that the Cherokee and Renegade are the two models that are "replacing" the Patriot and Compass in the line up.....looks like Jeep is finally getting around to two products as the Patriot and Compass are almost identical except body styling. So Jeep is improving their lineup which is a good thing.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

The Cherokee replaced the Liberty. The Renegade is a new model. The Patriot and Compass will remain in the lineup, at least for the foreseeable future.

I had read that no new Patriot and Compass for 2015...is that wrong?
