If you catch it before, then you don't have the problem. Mine slipped off within the first 20 miles (although I wasn't aware of the extent of the problem, I noticed some grease on the outside of my front two rims when I pulled into the hotel parking lot). The repair is to replace the axle. That is what they are telling me.....and three others here. I hope you don't have the problem, but if you do, get Jeep to do the right fix. I just don't see how if the boot clamp is that loose that grease wouldn't have escaped already. Good luck.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Wow, I haven't been on for a few days and this thread has grown to 9 pages already. So sorry to see that others are having this issue. I guess I am glad I opened my mouth to let you all know about this.

I just caught up with all the replies here and I decided to call Chrysler (877-426-5337). I spoke to a kind woman on the phone who was eager to let me vent to her. I told her about the CV issue. I told her about the leather not being connected on the back seat. I told her about the dent on the driver side speaker cover. I told her about the dent on the passenger side fender. I told her about the scratched up plastic hemi cover on my engine.

I then told her about the issues I will be bringing my Jeep into the dealership on Friday to get checked out. There is a low frequency humming coming from under the jeep when I drive slowly in reverse. There is a hissing/metal rubbing on metal sound coming from the rear wheels. The passenger side mirror just started to creak when I push the button to have it fold in and out.

She was very happy that I called to tell her about these issues. Especially the CV issue. She said she will be notating my account and would like me to call in every time another issue comes up. She also asked me to have you all call in and report the CV issue on your vehicle as well. They will need as many complaints as they can get so that they can look into this further. Once again the number is (877-426-5337). Just call and don't push any buttons. Let it go to the operator and then tell him/her why you are calling.

She told me to speak with my sales manager to see if he could get me a discount on the Mopar warranties. She said she could not help at her level with that. She is also mailing me via UPS a full copy of the vehicle's owners manual (600+ pages), the radio's manual and the full warranty manual.

I still have not gotten paperwork for the repairs that were done. They will give me a copy on Friday when I go in. I will also update you all on the other issues that they will be looking at.

The turn-around time on my CV repair was fast. I dropped it off at 5pm and had it back in the early afternoon the next day. They said they replaced the axles but I won't know for sure until I see the paperwork. Nothing was updated on the Jeep Owners Website yet. They paid for me to get a loaner car from Enterprise. They gave me a few options. I took a brand new Dodge Ram with 12 miles on it. It was fun to drive, but boy did I miss my Jeep for the little amount that I drove the truck lol.

Other than all that, I really love my Grand Cherokee! lol

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

My dealer ordered the axles yesterday, and says he got them in today. I dropped it off this afternoon, and he's hoping to have it back to me tomorrow afternoon. Not sure why some dealers are having problems getting these in next day. I'm sure they will be in short supply once everyone comes forward with this problem. Will let you know when I get it back.

Dropped off my GC yesterday, Jeep approved the repair today and I presume the axle (and other parts as needed) were ordered today as well. I was told parts take a day so perhaps I get mine back tomorrow or Friday unless a parts delay.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Im BEYOND fuming right now. Picked up my Jeep today after work at 5PM and had to rush to class for 530. On the way to class I hear a rattle coming from the front end. This noise was not there prior to the repair. It clunks and rattles on even a freshly paved road.

I get home at 7:30 (the service is already closed), and drive it up onto ramps that I have to take a look underneath and this is what I see.

Since it was already too late to call service back, I cleaned it off myself. Took three rolls of paper towels and an hour, but this is how the car should have been returned.

I cannot believe they left all of that grease all over the place. That is a safety hazard! And to top it all of, this rattle is happening all the time. I will be going back first thing tomorrow morning. The question is to call Chrysler prior to that. They emailed me this afternoon stating "Hoping your concerns have been addressed".

352 miles and going back to service for a second time!

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

I have a question, is someone able to look up the build date by the VIN? I am picking up my new '14 Overland tomorrow afternoon but it is at an out of town dealer and I haven't been able to look at the build date or under the car to check out the axles. Of course I'll inspect it when I take delivery, but was just curious before I get there if this is going to fall in the same date range as all of these other ones with the problem. It just hit the lot a couple weeks ago so it's probably built around the same time...

VIN 1C4RJFCTXEC465307

Thanks!

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Open the drivers door. There is a sticker. Look for MDH which represents the month, day, and hour built.

Re: Grease In Both Front Wheels... Normal?

Just heard back from the dealership. They said the brake plate wasn't seated correctly and that was what was causing the problem. Wtf?

They said it's ready to be picked up. Just before I pick it up, should they have replaced the brake plate or just placed back on. I would think driving with an incorrectly placed brake plate would cause it to get damaged.

Also they said "looks like the gentleman cleaning it didn't clean it off well enough". Honestly, if you look at the pictures before the cv boot repair, it looks exactly the same as yesterday's picture apart from the boot....
