Ground connection and tie rod boot leak?

My son was under my car and noticed the grounding strap is only connected to the frame, the other end is hanging. Where should it be connected? That bolt on the alternator ?

Is that grease coming from the tie rod cover, or are they dry inside?
Couldn't find anything above leaking. image.jpg

Attached image, hopefully worked....newbie!

Re: Ground connection and tie rod boot leak?

You need to get your vehicle to your dealer. Loose grounds, especially, can cause a lot of grief.

Re: Ground connection and tie rod boot leak?

40k for mileage and no issues yet, lucky I hope.
I can connect it, no need for a trip to the dealer.
Just need to know location......

Re: Ground connection and tie rod boot leak?

Your steering rack appears to be leaking into the boot from that picture, unless it's dripped down from elsewhere.

Re: Ground connection and tie rod boot leak?

This is a ground between the chassis (bolt) and the engine mount (press fit).

Couldn't find anything above leaking. Attachment 55491

Ya, that's the rack and pinion gear set and it wet, hence the boot. Clamp is loose.

Here's my passenger side. Nothing above there so I know it's a loose leaky boot. It's a $680 part to fix a slightly loose clamp. Viva la Factory Warranty!

Interestingly, my drivers side appears to have black silicone as a sealer underneath the boot/clamp...it does not leak.

Re: Ground connection and tie rod boot leak?

Just FYI: the dust boot on the steering rack isn't wet because of a loose clamp--there shouldn't be any fluid in there. It's just a dust boot. If there's fluid in the bellow/boot, it's because the rack seal is leaking and allowing fluid to drip into the boot. That basically means it's time to replace the rack.
