Had to replace a key fob - wont program to memory seat etc

Hi All,

I have run into a very frustrating issue I am hoping someone can PLEASE help me with.

I lost one of my original 2 key fobs which both worked flawlessly with the memory seat settings etc. After forking out a ridiculous $300 the new key was programmed and cut and does work for everything (lock, unlock, start including auto start etc) other than matching up with the memory function.

I followed the instructions in the user manual about 100 times - no luck, had the tech print something from the Chrysler tech system - tried another 20 times - still nothing.

The one original key we have does still work with the seat memory but the new one just wont match up. Oddly enough I cant seem to reprogram the original key to seat #2, it only retains the original coding) so I am thinking that somehow the Jeep is not saving the key settings to EITHER remote.

Does anyone have any insight here... is it possible they didn't check a box or something while coding the new key? Does the Jeeps key memory need to be wiped and then start fresh for both keys?@!

Any help would really be appreciated!

Cheers,

Six

Here's a prior post that mentions the manual is incorrect. Hope this helps

Re: Had to replace a key fob - wont program to memory seat etc

Thanks GB - I did find that post and have tried the sequence multiple times without success.

It's almost like both keys were assigned to one key #. Also, normally while the memory seat is on its way to the stored setting you can hit unlock on the remote or any of the 3 seat memory functions (1, "S", 2) and it will stop the adjustment. It stops if I hit unlock on the original remote mid-adjustment but if I hit unlock on the new fob it unlocks the doors but the seat continues to adjust as if it didn't accept the "stop" command.

Pretty sure my Jeep is possessed

Re: Had to replace a key fob - wont program to memory seat etc

So two different dealers were not able to figure it out but after hours of searching online I found the solution.

What the manual and tech bulletins all fail to mention is that although each vehicle can take up to 4 key fobs, only primary slots #1 and #2 will sync to seat memory. So in my case the lazy dealer who sold me the replacement key just coded it into slot #3 rather than removing the lost key and reprogramming to slot 2.

Once I pointed this out the new dealer had it up and working in less than 20 min.

Re: Had to replace a key fob - wont program to memory seat etc

Glad to hear you got this resolved, but what a shame that you had to go to several dealers and eventually tell them what to do to get it fixed. But in the end thanks for the useful info that will surely help out others that need a key replaced.
