Re: hard, rough downshifts to 2nd, 1st gear ???

You're a more civilized man than me then. If my whip is dirty after a tech has it then I wont leave until they get it cleaned up. The last thing they want is a customer making a scene in front of other customers, and I gurandamntee you I will if anything like that happens. I would also have turned right around and made them fix the mis-aligned steering wheel.

There's no excuse for it.

Re: hard, rough downshifts to 2nd, 1st gear ???

When we had a pile of front suspension work done on our elder GC by an authorized Jeep dealer, same thing happened: wheel not straight. They fixed it when I returned, and the mechanic who straightened it said this happens all the time.

Makes you wonder what happens like this that you can't see.

I get it often. I have Laredo X without terrain selector knob.

I definitely would if I hadn't taken the shuttle there and had to get back to work.

Exactly no pride or proper supervision these days.

As far as the transmission goes, I siphoned out 2qts of excess fluid last night. Now the fluid level is within the correct marks based on temperature. It shifts much smoother and run about 30 degrees cooler.

I am thinking about dropping the 2qts off at the service desk and let them know the problem is fixed.

Would love to see that myself, but I wouldn't. In all likelyhood it was overfilled, but what if it wasnt? What if it is something with the transmission? Again, I doubt it, but if it does turn into something much larger down the road like that then the dealership tells Jeep, "well we told him the level was ok, but he drain off 2 qts., and was running it too low."

Save yourself the potential headache and just know you were right all along. Just my .02

I know what you mean. I wish I had it in me to be so blunt. I will however give them one more shot at fixing the next issue before I have a nice conversation with the service manager and tell them they have lost my business.

Re: hard, rough downshifts to 2nd, 1st gear ???

It's the torque converter. I have had the shudder and rough downshift. I had the TSB update for the shudder at 2000 miles. I now have almost 5000 miles and it still shudders, it ain't learning. I took my Jeep to the dealer last week and they said they will need me to bring the Jeep back and leave it for a couple days while they replace the torque converter.

This is interesting. I've noticed an occasional hard shifting at 20mph and again sometimes at 40mph on light to moderate acceleration.
I too checked the trans dip stick ice cold and it was WAY above high. I then drove it around for 30 minutes last night, got the trans temp up to about 150 degrees. When I got home I parked on level ground and let it sit for 10 minutes, checked it again and it was between the 2 holes for 'high', which would seem to indicate the proper level.

At first I was pretty sure I was going to drain a quart or two off like you did but now I'm not so sure.

Has anyone else checked the fluid level when it's cold, then again when it's warm?

When it is cold you still must start it up really quick and cycle through the gears. Mine before I drained the excess off was 2'' above the range even when hot.
