Harsh Shifting

I am looking to buy a new SUV and I love just about everything about the Grand Cherokee. The only thing that scares me and the reason why I haven't pulled the trigger yet are the well documented harsh shifting problems. Does this problem occur in all of the engines(V8,V6, Diesel)? Is there any fix that really works? What percentage of owners does this affect?

The v6 seems to have the highest number of complaints on here for shifting and the 5.7 v8 has had very few snd thr others are somewhere in between. I dont think anyone knows exact percentages, it impacts some but not all. There are various flashes out for all of them. The 2015s seem to have less complaints then 2014 but there still some with issues. I have an early 2014 model 5.7 and mine is smooth as butter with shifting no issues

You have to think of it this way when it comes to complaints you see on the forums. How many people who don't have issues don't speak up or aren't on the forums (same goes for those that do). We are just a small sample of people that have the issue. Sure it might not be perfect, but the updates have helped from where it started. Test drive it before you buy it (even if you order one) and make sure you are OK with it. With some transmission issues it hurts the overall greatness of the GC as you can't really find others that have the same features for the price.

Again, please post this in the correct section of the forums. You are hijacking another users thread in a section that isn't even the same year as yours.

The V6's transmission is a ZF unit manufactured by Chrysler, while the diesel and V8 unit is built in Germany by ZF. It's been suggested that this could be one reason why the V6 unit has more issues. My V8 has been flawless since day one back in Sept. '13.

Re: Harsh Shifting

My 14 SRT 6.4 Hemi has had trans problems since day one, but I had a new TSB from May 15, done today, and so far it's a large improvement, hope it lasts! I know about the "learning mode" ...we shall see

Re: Harsh Shifting

Several guys with WK2 SRT's have crappy downshifting problems, most specifically 6-5 and 5-4. Me and at least one other guy have had Chrylser buy-backs for this issue...of course both of us were also dumb enough to buy another SRT because they're so awesome. I've had lessened issues with the new and the other guy claims his new unit shifts perfectly.

As always, YMMV...
