Headlight bulb issue

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland

Got some 6000k HID bulbs to replace the factory HID bulbs. Driver side was a bitch but I got it. Passenger side? Forget about it. I spend 2 hours (no exaggeration). Just would NOT go in to the little clips/prongs that the HID bulb sits in. Ended up breaking the bulb. Factory bulb will also NOT go back in. At all. Now I'm driving around with one bulb.

Oh. And when I started up my jeep after all of this, I have a check engine light.

I'm so frustrated. Any advice?

Re: Headlight bulb issue

Just to be sure, you know that the prongs hold the balast not the bulb right?
That was my big issue when I changed mine

Re: Headlight bulb issue

I've done it both ways the hard way and the easy way. The hard way is the way you tired doing it. The easy way take the bumper off pull the headlights replace bulbs. It's the way the dealership has to do it but would charge you four hours. I am on third leased jeep and have done it to all but current one. Takes me 30 minutes to pull bumper but that's me cause I've done it a few times.

Re: Headlight bulb issue

Definitely pull the bumper and remove headlight.

Little intimidating the first time, but like My1stGC says, I could have a headlight out now in under ten mins after having done it so many times.

I used this for reference, I think it's basically the same on the '14's...

Re: Headlight bulb issue

Wk2jeeps.com has written directions as well.
Mentioned above, may look like a pain. 1st time spent a little over an hour. If I do it again would take 30 minutes

Re: Headlight bulb issue

I installed some led bulbs using the hard way. Not difficult at all. I foind that the crappy cutout they cover under the fender wells sucks and getting to the bulb socket is a pain. Just removed a few clips and the bolt from the liner and stuck my hand through there.

HID's are a pain with the ballast and everything. I wouldn't even try it without taking the bumper off.
