Headlight Flicker 2012

I've noticed at night that my headlights have a random quick flicker like a voltage jump or dropout that happens very quickly and randomly. I don't have aftermarket HID's or done any type of HID conversion. I've tried switching bulbs to some sylvania's and it still happens..

You have to be in a dark area to see it well and look at the ground just in front of the hood or behind something that's light colored. I really notice it on my garage door and behind white vehicles..

At first, I thought my mind/eyes were acting up but tonight, my wife see's it and she's very unobservant.

Anyone else notice this or know what it might be?

Re: Headlight Flicker 2012

This can indicate a bad alternator if its a constant flicker. Its doing that because the voltage is not constant.

Re: Headlight Flicker 2012

I was thinking that too.. We've all seen some older cars at night do this.. Those seem to be a more steady "in time' pulse. This is more sporadic with no rhythm. I have to take our Charger in to the dealership for the dreaded door handle replacement, so I'll check with them.. Thanks!

Re: Headlight Flicker 2012

Just and update: Took it into the dealership and after a couple of hours, I was told it was a "normal condition". Even though there were "stored codes" for both low-beams and the driver side high-beam...

Re: Headlight Flicker 2012

Was wondering if you got the flicker issue corrected. I have a 2011 WK2 and I had the same problem. At on 13,766 miles the dealership just replaced the inner alternator and my headlights seem brighter and don't seem to flicker anymore like you described.

Re: Headlight Flicker 2012

I ordered two HID Xenon kits from amazon and installed them this weekend. My HID behaved exactly as demonstrated in this video I found in youtube:

I was so, so lost. I have a 2007 Grand Cherokee Lorado. I almost started to trash the whole thing HID kit and go back to stock. I somehow found some patience and read forums here and there and found this one which was very very helpful:
http://www.dodgetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=289860
After work today, I went straight to Radio Shack and bought two 4700uF capacitors (Part#272-1022) and added it to the HID wire that connect the stock power wire to the Ballast as stated in the forum above. THE FLICKERING STOPPED COMPLETELY AND I AM SO, SO HAPPY. THANK GOD. I am here because I wanted to share my experience and hope that this can help someone with exactly the same issue.

P.S. I got scared about the comment made about changing the alternator. There is no way I am changing my alternator as long as my car starts and there are no check engine lights buddy.

Re: Headlight Flicker 2012

We're talking about Halogen lights, but I've heard of your deal too when replacing them with HIDS.
