Headlight replacement

We have a headlight out in our 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. The manual says not to do it yourself but it bothers me to have to pay someone for something that should be so simple. Can we (by we, I mean my hubby) do it ourselves? If so can someone explain how. Thanks.

Welcome

I'd recommend asking this in the WK2 section of the forums. More eyeballs will see it

Re: Headlight replacement

Not 100% sure if this would be the same for the 2011-2013 models, but here you go:

Re: Headlight replacement

If you have HID headlights, and one of those is out: be prepared for an expense that is in the range of $200.

If you have standard lights (non HID) and you have one of these bulbs out: it is a little bit of a game of tetris, but is pretty straight forward.

If you have a DRL that is out: you're looking at $10ish and easiest to replace in my eyes.

Depending on WHICH of the bulbs is out and which headlights you have (I think that the limited models have HID that year) this is a job that can be done if your hubby has a little bit of experience wrenching.

Re: Headlight replacement

Dionarap:

Not sure what year you have, but with the 11MY here are the cliff notes:

Purchase D1S bulbs (...in a PAIR)
With the vehicle on, cut the steering wheel completely to the right, and access the "lightbulb access hole" in the foremost part of the wheel well (on the LHside).
Take that circular disc out of the wheel well.

pull the bulb holder out of the headlight assy (1/3 turn to the left, I believe)
The bulb will be able to be removed from there; it is a tight squeeze.
Put the new bulb in the bulb holder, make sure the safety mechanism is on correctly.

All done with a pair of rubber gloves. Bulbs like these + oil from your skin is a bad combo.

RH is opposite of the LH.
Good luck.

Re: Headlight replacement

Cheers for the reply . Am I best off disconnecting the battery first and is this enough to ensure no nasty shocks or do I need to make sure they're somehow fully discharged first? I've. 2013 ltd by the way.

Re: Headlight replacement

Ignition off and it will be fine, there should not be any power unless the switch is manually turned on or ignition is on.
