Here is what the tech from Detroit discovered concerning my headlights staying on:

There was programming they had thought about putting into production (something to do with sensitivity and tunnels) but decided not to, was found to be installed on mine and partially configured. The tech removed it either Tuesday or Wednesday. I am doing my testing now. So far the headlights are now appear to be working correctly. Even the auto high beams seem to work much better as well.

Guessing there may be a RRT for this after he gets everything documented.

Unless you have the issue MajorTom had they are just generally sensitive. Although I started paying attention to other cars around me and they seem to light up under similar circumstances so I'm not sure they are that far out of line with the industry.

They are way overly sensitive compared to other cars. Including the Prior Jeep I had and my wifes 2011 VW CC.

I've learned to live with it for now. But it's a bit ridiculous.

What's most annoying is the Dash and Radio Display being too bright or too Dim for the current conditions. Because it should be in the "opposite" mode based on the current ambient light.

Yeah the Jeep will trigger when other cars do, but other cars won't trigger back, and forward again every 2 minutes. Other cars KNOW when they are in borderline conditions (just flipped) and know not to keep flipping back and forth.

I may have the same issue. It can be bright enough for sun glasses and they turn on.. And like others have said, the screens cannot be seen then because they dim. Feb build date.

Re: Headlights in AUTO mode bouncing on and off

The actual programming issue I had was 'Terminal Mode' Not sure other than that. I now they disabled that in the actual programming or removed it totally. Once that was done the lights started working as I would expect. My replacement (long story but please no thousand questions or emails) has been fine. No issues with lights.

Re: Headlights in AUTO mode bouncing on and off

Zero issues with my Summit. I'd have to check prodcution date, but I want to say (very) late 2013. Bought 21 December '13. Almost 4k miles on it now. Do the headlights trigger back and forth every couple minutes in tree-lined, twisty mountain roads at 7am and 4pm (in Maryland)? Yep. Do they do it any more often than any other vehicle on the road in front of me? Nope.

When you get an "automatic" function...you live with its parameters. Period.

The nice thing about computers - they only do exactly what you tell them to do.

The bad thing about computers - they only do exactly what you tell them to do.

And for those of you who keep returning to dealers for a "fix"? Remember the USMC motto: "if it ain't broke...we'll fix it till it is!".

yep...I come from a Navy family...

In my case they would pretty much stay on all the time when in auto. This was determined to be a residual program enabled that was supposed to be removed/disabled as they decided it was not quite ready for prime time release. This was a March 2013 mid month build. The new December build works as expected. Same when they disabled this on the March build. Once they disabled / removed terminal mode auto worked as designed
