Re: Headliner Rattle.... Who Else is Experiencing

My wife's GC has the small sunroof with DVD flip down screen and we are experiencing the same rattle. I can see the there is almost a visible "sag" when I push the headliner "up" to make the rattle stop. No "movement" available on mine (no sunroof) nor my fathers (overland with pano roof), so I'm thinking its the screw someone mentioned (at least I hope). Scheduling an appointment for next week.

mine does this from the sunroof, but only if the shade it covering the glass. When the shade is pushed back exposing the glass there is no noise. Somethings gotta be lose in there, and when the shade goes back it must fill the gap

Lol! Same here! First few hundred miles thought it was a passenger side rear shock mount. I swore it was. Took all the stuff out of the spare tire well to eliminate that then driving around one day I pushed up on headliner behind sunroof (while glass was covered) and noise stopped. Leave cover pushed back and no noise. I just leave the cover pushed back. I have no desire to have the "techs" tear apart my headliner to give me 20 new rattles. If you figure it out let me know, I will try to fix it on my own. If not, I just leave the shade pushed back.

Re: Headliner Rattle.... Who Else is Experiencing

Mine seems to be coming from the rails the sunroof slides back on, above the rear passenger head area. If I sit back there while my wife is driving, and put pressure against the rails by light forcing them "apart", it seems to stop. Also, if I open the sunroof only half-way, and pressure is exerted in the area in this manner, it also seems to stop.

Had the noise coming from the rear above the cargo area and just to the rear of the drivers head.
Had the Jeep 3 times at the dealer for 4 days in total, since it's temperature dependent it's not immediately noticeable to the service guys. They managed to eliminate the roof rattle completely by using a special adhesive for the headliner. They were talking harmonic resonance...I have a standard sunroof. First effort to fix it they managed to badly dirty my beige interior (headliner/seat) well, they had to clean that and they did.
Last Jeep for sure. It's a big but otherwise cheap vehicle, I'd rather go with quality and fuel efficiency next time.

Re: Headliner Rattle.... Who Else is Experiencing

Been following every post on these forums related to the "roof rattle" and no one seems to have come up with a "definitive fix"!

Probably due to the fact that all these "rattles" aren't coming from the same place. After reading about DAYS in service, damage done, frustration, some fixed "temporarily", some not fixed at all, I'm (for the time being), sticking with my decision to just live with it. Mine isn't that bad and I just can't see the point in having someone "play around with it".

Mine does not do it with sun shade open. I just leave the shade open and live with it. I have no doubt they will fix it but will most likely result in 100 new rattles. I am totally anal but this does not bother me since I can just leave the shade open when I drive. Not only that but I did not want to mention it to them while I mentioned the shock noise. That would totally confuse the hell out of them. New shocks go on Tues. Im happy with new shocks and an open sunshade.

x2. I've found ways to just live with it (position the shade & sunroof so it's not as bad, turn up the radio), without having to go through the grief and frustration of what other damage might be done, only to find the problem wasn't "permanently" corrected. I just don't have much faith in bringing a vehicle in for repair, when the techs don't even know what they're looking for. It'd be one thing if there were a definitive TSB for the issue.

If you own the vehicle I'd have Jeep fix the rattle. I used my iPhone to record the noise.
The rattle totally ruined it for me and I told Jeep they can have the vehicle until it's fixed.
First they couldn't hear anything, then the service guy took the vehicle home over night, next morning he heard it and started working on it. If you ask me, the roof design is wrong with the headliner floating and only Velcro attaching it at some points...

Rattle is back, I hate that rattle ;-)
I'm now wondering If the rattle is actually originating from within that foam roof material?
A new vehicle / different brand will fix it.

Re: Headliner Rattle.... Who Else is Experiencing

Mine (large panorama sunroof with no rear seat DVD) just started rattling above the passenger seat whenever I drive over rough road surfaces. It should be easy to ignore, I seem to be fixated on it right now - lol. I'm going to try to better determine where it's originating before I go into the dealer since I don't want them going on a fishing expedition and potentially messing something else up.

If others have had a similar problem fixed and they know what was done, please share. Thanks
