So this afternoon I selected heat for drivers seat & wheel, noticed shortly the wheel was not getting warm? Worked this morning. Anyway, I tried 6 or 7 times coming home but no dice, press the screen "button" and it lights up (activated) but goes out/off after a couple seconds. Any thoughts before seeing dealer? Thanks, Dave
Good thought; and no I did not think of that BUT this morning went out and it worked!! Spent most of the day in the car and it worked every time soooooooooooo, who knows?! Must have something to do with shutting the car off last nite and letting it have a good rest!! Dave
I think there is a temperature cutoff for some of those comfort features: i.e. you cannot turn on the steering wheel and driver seat heat in warm weather. Maybe you came across the now legendary electrical glitches or thoughtless programming where you can manually heat up the seats but the steering wheel cannot heat up due to the temperature cut-off.
Im in AZ so I would never see temps below 40 thank god. But close some times.
I would manually turn it on and it would heat up a little and 20 seconds later shut off. Also this behavior wasn't the case all the time. Just some of the time. I'm glad the TSB states that it may be intermittent so it won't have to be replicated.
"SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
A customer may describe that the heated steering wheel shuts off too soon, usually after 30 seconds and does not achieve satisfactory temperature. This is an intermittent condition and more noticeable at temps below 19.5°C (67.1°F)."
I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem. I just recently noticed my steering wheel will only get hot for about a minute, then basically turn off even though the button is lit red.
On mine, I wish the darned things would come on low in the 30's (or at least switch to low after a few minutes) instead of always on high like I'm driving through the Tundra. When it's in the high 30's and the seats start cranking, I feel like I'm being baked.
I don't know why they bothered with a low setting if the auto system is never going to use it.
Just had my heated seat/steering wheel module updated this morning. Seems to be staying at a consistent temp now. Granted I only have a 10 minute drive home from the dealer... it seems to have fixed the problem.
