Re: Hello all!! Big problem with my new Jeep grand cherokee Overland!

Leaving an engine idling in park is not really dangerous. My point would be that it is simply wasteful. Imnsho that goes for remote starting as well. I wouldn't ever use remote start if I had it. 10 or15 seconds and I'm good to go at any temperature barring frost on the windshield.
Of course idling unattended with the door unlocked is not only dangerous but incredibly stupid and asking for trouble.

Guess you have never seen a 140F interior. Is this an easy option to add ?

What Model did you get? I just went through the EVIC and mine doesn't have that option???

Was it an optional extra?

At those times, I am not watching the vehicle.

I make no comment on the validity of the posters situation, but having an unattended vehicle running for a few minutes is not uncommon.
There's a big difference with leaving a Jeep running with remote start, and using a key. There was many built in safety measures that prohibits someone from driving away with it.

Jeep fixed my hovering issue but I did not get the Ball Cap! WTF! Screwed again!

Not looking to start a flame-war, just looking for clarification.

From the original post: "I left it running while in park and ran inside to grab something."

While the OP doesn't state he locked the vehicle, I assumed he would; as everyone is right that leaving a vehicle unattended/engine-running without locking it would be foolish. I assumed the OP would not have been that foolish. Perhaps a mistake on my part, but I found no reason to assume he didn't from his post.

You are correct in that using remote-start won't let someone else operate the vehicle (even if they could gain entrance) without having the FOBIK present.

Anyway.... Back to the main thrust of this thread....

Sure, seen it often or pretty close at least on a hot day, parked in the sun. But I know the AC will be blowing cool within 30 seconds. In my area I also see minus 35 in the winter. Same story...I just won't burn gas for purely my own comfort. Must be my Scottish ancestry....LOL.

Re: Hello all!! Big problem with my new Jeep grand cherokee Overland!

On my 1998 ZJ, there was a recall for a similar problem. The problem was sometimes, the shifter would pop out of Park position and slip into reverse. If the engine has been running at that time, this would drive the vehicle in reverse and could potentially harm someone if behind the vehicle at that time. I have personally seen the shifter pop out of park and shift to reverse, but mostly this happened when the engine was not running. I also noticed that on occasion, the shifter would be in park but the Jeep kept crawling forward when parked in a downhill slope. I will have to shift back to Neutral and then to Park and the parking pawl would pop back in place and the Jeep would not roll further. I always use the parking brake 100% of the time. After the recall fix, the problems on my Jeep with related to the Parking issues were resolved.

The OP said that his Jeep went forward and crashed. I am not sure how that might have been possible. But, it is not entirely impossible. We just need more details.

Re: Hello all!! Big problem with my new Jeep grand cherokee Overland!

So I guess the op isn't going to enlighten us on the finer details here.....like exactly what did he go in to grab...what was the undisclosed object...was the door locked etc. And pictures would seem to be out of the question. To sum up in answer to his question :. ...No one has ever seen this so called problem with WKs or WK2s.

Time to move along here....I'm done with this thread.

Re: Hello all!! Big problem with my new Jeep grand cherokee Overland!

The only plausible explanation is he left it in neutral when he went to his crack dealer and swapped it for a $50 baggie. The dealer then high, drove off with it and he needed to make up a reason for the missing car to his mum.
It is more likely this guy is a Troll, as he has not been back, only has one post and nothing to backup his claims.

Re: Hello all!! Big problem with my new Jeep grand cherokee Overland!

If airbags went off then all the actions for the previous 30 seconds will be recorded on Event Data Recorder.

So I'd assume Jeep, Police and Insurance will check that out.
