Re: Help diagnose rattle near dash/front window!

There are 2 pieces of the cowling under the windshield wipers, they slide left to right and kind of slot into the body under the hood (square slots). I played with it a little and moved it to the right and tried to make it tighter. Today, the sound of the chattering is gone but I fear it will come back.

That very well could be where the sound is originating. It got worse today.
I will check to see that, I've raised the steering wheel, checked for loose parts, etc. - with no luck so far.

How did you fix your problem?

Re: Help diagnose rattle near dash/front window!

I have one in the same area, but it seems to disappear when I open my glovebox. Haven't pursued it any further...but it is surely annoying

Re: Help diagnose rattle near dash/front window!

Did check the plastic piece behind the rear view mirror and that baby is loose. I still hear the rattle coming from under the dash above the tachometer, or from the cowling right in front of that by bottom of front window glass. So hard to diagnose where it actually is originating from ... arghhh!

Re: Help diagnose rattle near dash/front window!

After taking delivery I had a rattle or clicking noise somewhere in the interior. It was found to be a piece of plastic that wasn't secured up above where the dome lights/sunglass holder is.

Re: Help diagnose rattle near dash/front window!

I had a rattle that sounded like it was either in the A-pillar or right under the dash near the corner of the windshield. Turned out to be the windshield washer fluid hose rattling around against the hood hinge. The hose is pretty rigid and at speed gets blown around under the hood. I zip-tied the hose to the inside "channel" of the hood hinge and my rattle went away (after the dealer broke my cowl trying to look for the rattle).

Re: Help diagnose rattle near dash/front window!

We have that sensor thing on the rear view mirror, it has rattled off and on since day 1. Dealer has replaced it and added foam to separate it from the windshield. Worked for 3months and now it is back. Will mention it again next oil change.

Re: Help diagnose rattle near dash/front window!

I just got back from 7 days away from home - and when I drove the Jeep the windshield or something nearby was still chattering. Hopihng to get it into the dealer Friday or Monday for a better look. My problem now is it is not occurring as frequently so that will make it harder to diagnose. Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

Re: Help diagnose rattle near dash/front window!

I have a similar noise that shows up when its very windy or when traveling at high speeds. It's sounds like plastic tapping on glass. I have tried the zip tie trick on the washer hose but it didn't fix it. The sound is reproduced in the car wash when being blown dry. I'm about ready to point my leaf blower at the fricken thing.

I'm afraid to take it to the deal for fear the will not be able to reproduce or they will break something else. Honestly it yanks my chain so much that I'm nearly ready to trade the truck in on a new one!

Re: Help diagnose rattle near dash/front window!

Jeff - I am making an appointment to get this checked & will report back findings if they can fix it. It is damn aggravating, I admit. The GC has been bone quiet for me till a week ago - then it started. It was purchased 10/11 as a 2012 model.

Re: Help diagnose rattle near dash/front window!

On our 2012 WK2 we have an intermittent rattle/buzz from the top of the dash LH side (that's passenger side to us Aussies). It depends on road surfaces and car speed and comes from the extreme end of the plastic air vent moulding that is inset into the top of the dash. Just a finger touch on it will stop. Sometimes it is gone for a week and then a different road surface will bring it back. I reckon a bit of blue tack (do you have blue tack?) or similar pushed under the end would fix it - i just haven't got around to it because it doesn't do it around town. From the drivers side it was really hard to pinpoint but with my wife in the passenger seat she was able to locate it immediately.
We also have another intermittent one from the chrome ring around the speedo - pushed back tight it doesn't buzz - then over time comes back.
