Re: Help diagnose rattle near dash/front window!

Took the Jeep to a well respected glass shop today for diagnosis of the origin of the noise source. The tech suspected the cowling/lower trim molding (which is slightly warped in 2 spots). He was able to make the cowling transmit noise by tapping slightly on the corners. He said if Jeep doesn't fix it under warranty, he could eliminate the noise by using poly adhesives on the top corners of the cowling (showed me 2 main points), and by also using the adhesive where the ends of the cowling adjoin the frame (possible rubbing noise transmission?). He told me he would use the adhesive on the clips too which are right under the rubber molding that lies on top of the cowling (that is the weight that actually holds the cowling down according to the glass tech).

We'll see what Jeep has to say next Wednesday, which is the next available appointment available for me.

Re: Help diagnose rattle near dash/front window!

Found the problem with my GJK Laredo CRD after a few months of searching. It was the mud flaps on the front . The screws had come loose and where unable to be tightened. The vibration came up through the panels and sounded as though it was in the dash. Drove me insane. Removed the flaps and tested ......NO MORE RATTLE.
