I am new to this forum and my 2014 overland is 1 week old. After reading several forums, I'm starting to think I made a BAD choice. Does anyone have a GC that they like and have not had so many problems with?

I also have a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited that is awesome, problem free.

Please help me out. Is there anyone out there that loves their Grand Cherokee?

Mine has been fantastic. However, it's an 11 model year. I have had only a few very minor issues, but nothing terrible. A rear door lock actuator and front strut have been the "worst" issues I've had.

I have had mine since May 2011 and the only thing that I've had a problem with was my power window switch went out and was replaced under warranty. Also happen to have the dash peeling issue but a little Gorilla glue has at least somewhat rectified that situation.

I have 13k on my 14' which I purchased back in/around April. Only issues I've had was the tire shimmy at ~70 mph. That was corrected by the dealer with new wheels/tires.

Only other issue I have that just cropped up yesterday is attempting to remote start the car it started then immediately shut down. Got in to start it manually and my dashboard didn't come on. After remote starting it again it came back.

Been a great car so far.

So far I've only had minor issues with my 14 overland which we took delivery of back in March, so nearly 7 months ownership. We just rolled over 11k miles and the only issues have been the dreaded "see dealer for service" message on the radio which seems to have gone away after the last software update, the raising message staying on longer at random times when the vehicle raises from park mode and there's a TSB for that as well, and an issue with the time on the dash and radio which went away after a restart.

Both my wife and I have been very happy with our purchase and while those bugs were annoying, never did they put us in a situation where the vehicle had to stay at the dealer overnight or needed to be towed. I've seen others with issues much more severe, but we're really the minority of owners when you look at how many post here and how many of these sell month-to-month.

It would only be a bad choice if your Jeep had problems, not because somebody else had a problem. Lots of folks were complaining about their '07 Liberties. The only service mine ever had were oil changes.

My '14 has had a few issues, but none that weren't addressed while I had a cup of coffee (or two) at the dealership.

3500 miles 2014. Been to dealer once to get Transmission Firmware update.

Updated Radio myself.

I have had a Service Throttle Twice on Evic and the bowed Power Liftgate handle.

Both those need to be addressed but I'm in no rush. Waiting to see if my Jeep is included in the Recall so I can get everything resolved in one trip.

Keep in mind there are TONS of sensors and gadgets in this Jeep that were not in past generations. So we have a wealth of new information the system collects to stay on top of things.

Like my Service Throttle Message. On my old cars maybe it would have quietly just run until it failed at 40K miles. Instead, it's warning me it's not running 100% efficient. I would not call that a "Problem". Or it could be a bad sensor that monitors that it is working.

So part of it is calibrating yourself to this new system and I'm sure Jeep is going through some teething pains as well.

Any chance you had the spare key in the car or a door open. The remote start doesn't work under these situations.

I have had no problems with my '14 Limited (4 months old).

After reading several forums, I'm starting to think I made a BAD choice
I felt the same way after first coming to Jeep Garage.

I think reading forums can give you a bad impression of issues in a vehicle as problems become amplified when you see these huge threads about an issue that only effects a minority of people.
You have to put it in perspective that in September alone around 14,000 Grand Cherokee's rolled off dealers lot (I think I remember reading this...), there are a large number of those people who experience little-to-no issues.

Now, I do not mean to be harsh on forums (or in-particular Jeep Garage, as I think this problem plagues reading forums on any car). I think that forums are a great resource (people sharing their fixes / ideas / piecing together the puzzle), and I have to imagine that some of the in-sight of the members trickles up to the car manufacture and helps create permanent fixes for the car (after-all, we are the day-to-day users of their product).

The more I have spent time on the forums here (lurking), I've come to have the opposite reaction: I no longer think I bought a bad car; nay, I am more confident than ever that I bought the best car out there.
There is a fantastic user-group to help troubleshoot your problems and get you back on the road. You are not seeing post after post saying "it's broken", but rather a living-breathing-changing-evolving thread where problems are getting fix.

Enjoy your new Overland! I know you will love it!

PS: Welcome to Jeep Garage!

I have nearly 15,000 miles on my 2014 Overland and no major problems. Yelp! never seems to work, but that's the worst of it and no big deal.

No trips back to the dealer since delivery at the end of April. I will take it back soon for the transmission firmware update, but I honestly can't complain at all about the way the tranny runs now.

I've got almost 1300m on mine, delivered in late August.

It "suffers" from the rear hatch mis-alignment (which I don't notice), the bowed gate handle (which I don't notice). It's also "plagued" by the "4 click" remote rear hatch entry.

The most "annoying" trait is that it, rarely, does not see the fob when I'm in the car, or it won't let me lock it from the door handle (again, I sense a fob sensing issue). This is annoying specifically because I never have the fob in my hand any more, I just leave it in my pocket.

Rarely, when I'm creeping very slowly in a parking lot, specifically after pulling out of a space and leaving, I think the transmission gets confused between 1st/2nd and it jerks about a little. This has happened two or three times.

Vast majority of the time, it all Just Works. Every now and then, it doesn't. None of these bother me. The cosmetics are minor issues, the rest seems to all be software, which will in time be updated.

This vehicle, however, is amazing.

Honestly, if your Wrangler JK doesnt make you put your double-mocha latte down and buy another Lexus- you will be more than happy with the GC.

I dont think there is another brand with more loyalty... my JK Wrangler is actually dying for a tow-vehicle, so I am purchasing a WJ/WK to serve as a daily driver and part-time tow vehicle. Let me reiterate- I am about to buy am up to TEN YEAR OLD Grand Cherokee to tow my 4 year old Wrangler because I cant see myself leaving the brand.

...then again arnt WK2's IFS? If so burn that f*cker to the ground. ;)

Bought my 2013 Overland in April, and after 1500 miles I can honestly say I have not found one damn thing to bitch about! I really love it! Of course the gas mileage isn't anything to write home about...but the looks, The gorgeous saddle tan interior, and the beefiness of this vehicle are incomparable.
Years ago I had a '92 Wrangler with the 4.0 straight six. It was a great Jeep. The last year they had a "normal looking" roll bar. I started dating a woman who just wasn't a Jeep type gal...I ended up selling the Jeep, marrying the girl, and buying a Z28. Always missed that Jeep though. Now, I'm back in the saddle again, albeit a more civilized one...and even my wife likes the Overland
I dunno...maybe I'm not looking hard enough. Yeah it clunks into gear once in a while and yeah I get a tiny bit of power steering hum at very low speeds....but I don't see these things as issues. Its a big machine...not a delicate little 2.0 turbo Toymaznissahonda. It makes a little noise now and then. Ever kick a 1200 Harley into gear? It clunks in! It's kinda like that...at least that's how I see it!
We'll see how it does down the road, but right now....right now,I love that freakin Jeep!

My 2012 Limited has just turned 20k miles. Love it! Minor issues early on that was fixed by the dealer (pano roof rattles fixed in 2 attempts, rain sensor replaced after a windshield replacement, maybe another issue or two).

Only complaint is about the seats (could be a bit more softer bottom and supportive back) and the placement of the pedals (could be a bit more to the right I think). Other than that, I love the Jeep. Best GC since ZJs. :)

Cheers,
-A

We have 2600+ miles on our 2014 Overland and it has been relatively trouble free. The only issues we have is the AC shutting off when we get into the car after a remote start and the need to push the hatch button on the remote 4 times if that's the first thing we do when approaching the car. Works in 2 pushes if we have remote started the car or opened the doors first. We also had the cluster screen go blank twice. That's it. We love our Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland!

Sitting in a Denny's parking lot waiting for a tow. Had a high pitch whine in stop and go traffic, then 20 minutes later a stall on I 95, CEL, service 4x4 light and esc light.

Called dealer, told me to get it parked it could catch fire. Limped it out of the center of Philadelphia at 50mph & 4500 rpm.

So a tranny issue?

Had the 2nd cylinder head replaced and a new 730N. First and now last Chrysler product. Just on verge of 39k miles.
