help on how to proceed with damage from known recall

2011 JGC Laredo caught fire today from what seems to be the sun visor. We had all 3 recalls services at local dealer just 2 months ago. Came out of the house to unload some stuff...30 minutes after coming home and opened the hatch to nothing buy smoke. Thankfully me and my 15mo old son were already home and not driving around an extra 30 minutes.

My Insurance was called and waiting to get a claims guy out to my house. Also called the dealer who serviced the recalls and offered to contact Chrysler for me about this. I have gap insurence so I think I'll be cover from losing money since I still owe more than what it's worth.

I'm just not sure on how to handle getting this resolved? I don't think I can just let my insurence total it out and get a check. I'm sure Chrysler or dealer will be interested in looking at it before insurence takes claim. Any help or advise is appriciated.

So the whole interior burnt up in flames? I would call chysler corporate directly and tell them your jeep cought fire after having recalls. They may send an investigater out, anything involving safety like that you will get their attention. Take a video of the burnt out jeep put it on you tube send them the link, they will likely call you quickly

I didn't see any flames. I immediately popped the hood and took off the positive cables. All seats, doors, headliner have damage and soot covers everything inside. The windows are yellow and windshield is cracked. Outside roof above driver sun visor area is cracked and pealing.

Call jeep corporate directly not the dealer. Take video of it and send it to them.

I'll have to host them somewhere once the kid goes to sleep soon. Unless there is a post requirement here before being able to upload pics

Wow, that's amazing the whole vehicle didn't keep burning. Looks like a recall wasn't performed correctly or is insufficient.

There is, but keep posting and you'll hit it.
Sounds like the infamous visor on fire recall.
Did they just work on the visor/roof, or did they actually install the recall?

I'd definitely find out what was done, and let your insurance agent know along with Chrysler directly, but if you have good working relationship with the dealer, they can be a huge ally--up until Chrysler blames them for burning up your vehicle.

Dealer is supposed to contact Chrysler for me but haven't received a call today. They did the recall service while I had the TIPM recall done at the same time. Insurence adjuster should be here soon.

I always say work with people first. BUT, if you feel you need to turn up the volume so you get the proper care all you have to do is file this with NHTSA and once they see it's an actual fire your phone and email will start smoking!
