Re: HELP! Saddle finish wearing off.

Count me in ... I already had to change my drive seat .. and now my rear seat is wearing ... and I dont even sit back there ... nor have kids ...

I have had pleanty of cars and I never have had leather seats wear so poorly before. And that includes my 2005 Durango which had 97K miles on it when I turned it in. My Mini Cooper has 67K and the seats are fantastic.

So.... when you get your letter written send me a copy as well ...

Re: HELP! Saddle finish wearing off.

Thanks everyone... I will have time this week to get going on this. I've already called the 800-992-1997 Chrysler customer service number that my service manager had given me. Unfortunately, their systems were down and she told me to call back in a few hours.

On another note, I called my service manager today and he's making an appointment today for me to drop off the grand cherokee summit for the following TSB's (and I am getting a loaner car):

- 08-053-11: Vehicle Theft Alarm Intermittently Sounds
- 18-035-11: Driveability Improvements (MDS, and lower torque calibration for faster throttle response).
- 19-004-11: Shudder and/or bump felt through steering wheel under moderate braking.

I will keep everyone posted on my progress!

Thanks,

Dennis

Re: HELP! Saddle finish wearing off.

Ok... Siggggghhh... Everyone, this is where the battle begins! Called into Chrysler and spoke with a very nice lady about the seat wearing issue. She documented my complaint and did mention to me that "Now that the issue has been remedied and my other seats show no sign of wear (because no one is ever in them), there's no way my concern can be escalated to a case manager."

However she did mention that I can try contacting NHTSA.GOV (888-327-4236) or write Chrysler directly (Chrysler Customer Care, P.O. Box 21-8004, Auburn Hills, MI 48321).

Also, she did mention that everyone who's having problems should call into their customer care line to get this documented for future purposes. Not sure how much that will help, but it may be in everyone's best interest to pursue this. If you decide to contact Chrysler (800-992-1997), feel free to reference my "Case File #: 2147-1057" so that they can possibly lump the complaints together.

I plan on trying NHTSA today and then start building my letter for Chrysler. I will keep everyone posted.

Thanks!

Dennis D.

Re: HELP! Saddle finish wearing off.

Can't imagine NHTSA would be concerned with a cosmetic issue. Seems like misplaced advice by the nice lady.

Re: HELP! Saddle finish wearing off.

I bought my 2011 Overland Summit in August and just had the driver's seat, front passenger seat, and driver's arm rest replaced because of this "leather wear" issue. We noticed the driver's side wearing off frist, then saw it on the arm and passenger seat. Took the vehicle back to the dealer and they did the typical warranty claim process (took pictures, sent to Chrysler, etc...). The dealer replaced all of the worn parts with new stuff and told me this is a wide spread problem (quality control issue with the manufacturer of the seat covers). This happens in all of the vehicles with this leather interior. My service rep told me about a new Charger owner (the special edition with a beautiful leather interior) that has had his seats replaced three times already. While my vehicle was being service, I walked into the showroom and opened the door to the GC Overland Summit sitting on the showroom floor and sure enough, the driver's seat was showing the same wear (just from sitting on the showroom floor). I told the service manager about it and they pulled the vehicle from the showroom (must of been embarassing).

If you're having this issue, take your vehicle back to your dealer right away and get it fixed under your warranty. I asked if I was going to be doing this on a regular basis, since I've only owned my GC for 2 months (at the time of replacement) and was told it would be fixed every time while under warranty. We'll see...

Re: HELP! Saddle finish wearing off.

My saddle seats have not been experiencing accelerated wear in the 4 months I have owned my summit, but I have generously conditioned the whole saddle interior twice over during those months with lexol conditioner, and I also don't have side steps. The key is to not slide off the seat when getting in and out as well.

Re: HELP! Saddle finish wearing off.

I just had my passenger's side seat bottom replaced and the driver's side is on national backorder. The vendor must one of the worst ever as I have never had this kind of vehicle leather problem on 10 vehicles. It made my decision to go with cloth interior in the new JKU a simple one for sure. (Although I think leather in a Wrangler is an iffy choice but the wife would have wanted it without this problem) I did notice the new cover seems to be a different leather, just slightly. Hopefully it will wear a lot better.

Re: HELP! Saddle finish wearing off.

has there been an update on this? had no idea this was such a problem.

was going to order an Overland in Saddle/Black but now i think it's safer to just go with all black interior. they will either fix the problem or not - or it could always be somewhat of a problem. and while i have every confidence that they will replace seats while under the factory warranty, after that runs out it's on your own dime. the extended warranty expressly states that leather is not covered.

Re: HELP! Saddle finish wearing off.

btw - I just called the Jeep Recall and Customer Service number asking about this issue. The guy acted like he had never heard of the issue and said Jeep does not have an issue with this and it must be a few isolated people on a message board.

definitely getting the black now. would have rather he knew about the issue and said a fix was in the works.

Re: HELP! Saddle finish wearing off.

Have you treated the leather? Mine in my BMW have 155k and don't look that bad.

Re: HELP! Saddle finish wearing off.

I've been checking mine. No issues so far after almost six months.
