Today i notice there was a small droplet of some liquid on the plastic near the shifter.

i wiped it clean and there was a little smudge left so i tried wiping that and it wouldn't come off.

the Mrs used a wet wipe on it and BAM paint starts chipping off the centre of the droplet mark.

now i have a brand new jeep with paint chipping of the center console and its heart breaking

can someone help

Hi Bill,

I worked back and figured out what it was that dripped onto the plastic panel, it was a little drop of instant hand sanitizer.

It was only there for maybe 5 seconds before i wiped it clean then found the dried up outside ring, which i tried wiping off and then the Mrs used a wet wipe on and BAM! plastic chips start flying

This happened to my co-worker's Charger except in his case, a liquid air freshener leaked and ruined everything.

I feel your pain even though. The Dart has painted plastic inside and I'd hate for it to happen to me. The Liberty is good... barely any. :p Very utilitarian.

I hate all the painted plastic In the Jeep GC. Looks so cheap and nasty before you ruin it with hand sanitizer or a wet wipe. It's ironic that the cheaper jeep apparently has nicer interior.

I have used the rear front cup holder to hold a pump of generic hand sanitizer since Feb. 2011. It gets all over things especially when my wife drops her huge handbag on it when she gets in the passenger seat... never have had any issues. The leather on the steering wheel even tolerates it as I sometimes grab the wheel before it has dried off my hands.

Damn hand sanitizer. The kids once dropped some on my previous light-grey Lincoln Bridge of Weir leather seats. It created a large spot -- which would not disappear.

Maybe a pic of your damaged part? Is it flat black, or some other painted color? If it's just textured black, you may be able to remove and paint that item yourself. Cover it with vinyl? etc.
