Help with identifying a part and damage

As i was working on a project i saw this and i have no idea how that happened(i did get my wheels aligned and my exhaust changed so its possible that it might have happened at one those shops). The plastic cover is broken and barely hanging and the box looking thing behind it has some oil on it(not a lot) and i cannot tell if its damaged or not. Car runs normal. My question is what is that box looking thing AND is it normal to have some oil on it? The picture of the car on the lift is not mine but im attaching it to give you an idea what part im talking about. Thank you in advance

Re: Help with identifying a part and damage

That's your Transmission oil pan and that plastic piece covers it.

Have you had the transmission serviced anytime recently?

Basically I would spray it down with some parts cleaner like brake clean or metal parts cleaner and see if it comes back looks like you hit something or did something. Plastic doesn't just magically break.
