Re: HEMI hestitated and "shook" during W.O.T.

I have about 800 miles. It seems like it kicks down good, engine doesn't really seem to be misfiring or shaking, just feels like the esc is kicking in for the front wheels and killing the power for a second or two but it pulses during the second or two multiple times which is causeing the shudder. I don't feel anything from the rear. Wouldn't the rear be effected as well if it is the torque converter?

Maybe the ESC flash will help? I was at the dealer two weeks ago to have them activate the Lights in the door panel and asked them to check if it had the esc flash and they said it was done but who knows. When I got the truck back I noticed an ink mark on the door so I had to bring it back again and leave it over night to have them replace the door panel so I am not in a rush to have it fixed. I can deal with it for now as it only happens if I floor it from almost 0% throttle, if I am on it slightly and then floor it I don't think it happens. I will have to test it more in the next few days.

Let me know how you make out.

Re: HEMI hestitated and "shook" during W.O.T.

Having ~300 miles on your vehicle, the transmission and ETC are still learning and adjusting to driving habits and, at 45mph, MDS is active. As has been stated, in that particular condition (cruising 40-45mph with "ECO" indicated), it takes a long moment to respond to WOT. It must go to full 8cyl operation and downshift while reducing engine torque during the kickdown to the secondary 2nd gear. It's all in the name of fuel economy, but yes it can be an annoyance when you want the go-pedal RIGHT NOW.

My solution to avoid this EPA-induced powertrain Yin&Yang is when I'm traveling around town at or below 50mph, I use the shifter to switch from "D" to "5" and leave it there. Doing so disables the MDS and has had nil affect on my suburban cycle fuel economy of 15-17mpg. If when you bump down from "D" and it displays "4" or "3" because you're in a lower gear, just bump the shifter back to the right until it's set to "5". You could also just run around in Tow/Haul mode.

I'm not concerned with the delay and do not believe it has to do with the mds, more so what seems like the esc kicking in for the front wheels. I'm going to give it time and see if using tow mode or putting it in 5th gear has any effect. It seems like there is currently no fix so I will wait it out until my first oil change unless it becomes to annoying. Kind of bummed, got the hemi to floor it, not worry about what speed I am traveling before I get on it. Not worth wasting time at the dealer and getting frustrated.

If it was the ESC it would not do it or do it less in Sport mode. People have reported that Sport mode does not make a difference.

Either way, it sucks. Hopefully they get it sorted. It is not just a rare set of circumstances, it is when you punch it from 40-60, the faster you are going the less noticeable it is.

Re: HEMI hestitated and "shook" during W.O.T.

I do not believe that they could or would sell new vehicles that have to "learn" when to shift and what gear is the best one to shift into in a particular situation. They should have tested enough on pre-production units to be able to have a complete software program that will respond with the proper shift at the proper time regardless of the situation, or at least what they think after testing is the "proper" gear and "proper" time. If they are incorrect with the first program, a software program update could be issued to change the parameters, but I don't think that they should, or would, release a vehicle to the public that has to learn as it goes. They would be leaving themselves wide open for law suits.

Agreed, would this be acceptable with an SRT? How could this not show up in testing?

Re: HEMI hestitated and "shook" during W.O.T.

It's not a problem with MDS. I can replicate it when in Manual mode and in Tow Haul mode. MDS is not active in the last two modes.

My theory is the majority of testing was performed on the new V-6. Of the supposed millions of miles of real world testing that was performed I would LOVE to know the ratio of V6's to V8's that were tested. I have 4,800 miles on the car and this has not gone away. I cannot believe that 1200 more miles will magically fix this.

This car is quickly becoming a problem child and I am starting to regret my purchase even faster.

Re: HEMI hestitated and "shook" during W.O.T.

Nope, that will probably be what they try first. The first three times I had the car in they would not even try to diagnose this problem. The dealer told me that this is the torque converter breaking in AND it has a 6,000 mile break-in period. They basically said, come back in 6,000 miles. I would have to look at the TSB release date versus my last visit to know if it is something that should have been performed.

I would love it if that fixed it. But others have reported it hasn't so I guess I am naturally skeptical. I am also a little frustrated because some other surprising problems have surfaced on my 3.5 month old car over the past couple of weeks. It's a pain to have to bring it back and leave it that many times early on in ownership. Makes me nervous about what problems I can expect a year or two down the road...

We'll see what they say next week...

Good luck. That's bs about breaking in the torque converter.
