hemi starting issue

hey guys,
has anyone had an experience where they cant start the hemi in the morning or after long periods of non use. No codes and dealer cant find any issues supposedly. Its going back monday or tuesday. Takes minimum of four 5 second cranks before it finally starts. Once it starts the first time its good for most of the day unless it sits for 12hrs or more.
any help where to start looking greatly appreciated!

Re: hemi starting issue

Mine starts right up, but has been missing a bit until it is warmed up. And, my lawn mower now takes a few extra pulls to start. That is my notice that the local station has switched to winter blend.

I had this happen to my TrailBlazer shortly after moving here. The service manager at the local Chevy dealer told me to go to Walmart and buy two cans of Chevron injector cleaner. I've been doing that for seven years now with good results. I have to pick some up this week.

He said that something in the winter blend really needs clean injectors.

You either have an actual fuel leak somewhere or more likely the drainback valve for the fuel system is faulty (it's generally in or near the pump depending on the vehicle model). Your fuel rail is slowly leaking back into the lines and tank instead of remaining primed with fuel. It's generally a slow drain which is why it has to sit for a while for it to happen. The multiple cranks needed are actually re-priming the system (getting fuel into the injector rail) before it will fire up.

Alternatively you might have a leaky injector (or several) which is causing the same symptom. However, given how long you need to crank it that by itself is unlikely as it sounds like the fuel rail is pretty empty--that much fuel in a cylinder or two would be...unpleasant to say the least.

It's most likely your TIPM try searching this issue on these forums and see if your priblem matches the rest.

Re: hemi starting issue

So the starting issue went away for a while then came back. When it did come back huge starting issues in the morning then fine for rest of the day.
So brought the truck in on Monday, got the truck back today!!! I must be the luckiest guy, they had a TIPM on the shelf!!!!
anyway, shout out to Westbury Jeep in NY they took care of me and fixed a long list of other issues!

Re: hemi starting issue

Had the same starting issue in my 2011 WK2 hemi. Bought it in to East Hills for a TIPM replacement. Had to leave the Jeep for a full month before I got it back. scittb, you were lucky with in stock availability at Westbury of this nationally back ordered part!
