Hey where's the fuel filter? When to change diff fluid?

I'm used to owning Fords and changing the fuel filters every year. This is my first Chrysler vehicle, and there is no item for this on the maintenance schedule, and the owner's manual doesn't mention a fuel filter. What's with that?

Also, there is no set time to change the differential fluids. Fords are usually 100k.

Two fuel filters are used. One is located at the bottom of the fuel pump module, the other is located inside the module. A separate frame mounted fuel filter is not used with any gasoline engine. They do not require normal scheduled maintenance. Filters should only be replaced if a diagnostic procedure indicates to do so.

Re: Hey where's the fuel filter? When to change diff fluid?

Recommended fluid changes are in the owners manual, but if I recall correctly, if you are using the WK2 as a taxi or off-road, change the diff oil every 24k miles or so. Otherwise just check the level every 32K or so, there is no required change interval.

There are folks here that change diff oil more often. Some dealers will try to sell you a diff oil change every 12k miles or so.

Re: Hey where's the fuel filter? When to change diff fluid?

That's odd about the fuel filter. I'd expect a screen-type filter in the tank to protect the pump, then another paper type to protect the injectors.

The schedule requires inspection of the transfer case fluid at 32,000 mile increments and changing at the fourth interval. It requires inspecting the diff fluid at 24,000 mile increments but no change. I'm going to add it in at the fourth interval.

On my Fords I've typically halved the diff change interval, because I've had them get noisy over time. I'll likely do the same with this Jeep as well. Even full synthetic fluid is cheap compared to gears and bearings.

Re: Hey where's the fuel filter? When to change diff fluid?

The first car I had with a "Lifetime" fuel filter was a 1987 Ford Bronco II. I never changed it and put 168,000 miles on that vehicle.

Re: Hey where's the fuel filter? When to change diff fluid?

I had a '90 Bronco and a friend of mine had a Bronco II, so naturally I called it "the Bronckette". Years earlier I had a Escort and he had a Chevette and we used to race up this big hill on the way to work and I beat him every time. All in fun.
