Question high mount light - lens only?

I'm in a pickle - hoping the collective wisdom here can help!

A little tree feel on my liftgate, and the lens on my high-mount brake light on my spoiler was broken. Insurance is replacing the whole spoiler so no problem there.

BUT:

In NY State you have to have a safety inspection every year. You can't pass with a broken brake light lens.

My inspection just expired. So my car's not legal to drive - and the body shop won't accept it until it is. "In case they have to move it" (never mind the logic there...it is what it is)

So catch 22 - can't get it fixed until I update my safety inspection, can't do that until I get it fixed.

I know I can buy the whole light assembly. But I don't have time nor skills to be disassembling the whole thing.

Does anyone know if it's possible to buy just the lens? My plan was to buy one, and just epoxy it OVER the other one. Since it's just going to get thrown away by the body shop anyway.

Or...any other ideas?

Well isn't that shitty. Try the tape and see if that works, but if it doesn't, is there another body shop you could try?

Re: high mount light - lens only?

The CHMSL is a complete and separate unit.

So I would suggest getting some some red clear acrylic vinyl or some sort of flexible red plastic to get your registration current then have it replaced with the liftgate spoiler.
