Higher gear rough downshift 2015 JGC

Greetings,

I just turned 4k miles on my 2015 JCG limited V6 and have been experiencing the downshift bump between gears 6-5 and 5-4 since about 500 miles. I've been scouring the internet for weeks trying to figure this issue out. I've been to the dealership twice since I purchased the vehicle. First visit, i received the current and latest TSB flashes for the TCM and everything shifted great for about 1-2 weeks before the issue started back up. I took it again and got the dreaded, "couldnt replicate issue/working as intended" response from the service tech. They told me that they are hoping for another flash update in the next month or two and just to be patient while they try and figure out their software. I tried elevating to Jeep customer care and received the same response from them.

My biggest question: Is anyone experiencing the rough downshifting at these higher gears? Everything i read about is between 3-2-1 but I have yet to read anyone having issues in the 6-5-4 range. My downshifting 3-2-1 has been smooth as silk but 75-80% of the time while coming to a stop, i get the jerking movement 6-5-4.

FYI, I've tried the battery reset procedure and I've disabled hill assist with very little improvement.

If anyone else is having downshift issues at higher gears please let me know.

Thank you in advance.

Re: Higher gear rough downshift 2015 JGC

Taking my 2014 JGC diesel in to the dealer this week for a reflash. Had the 21-012-15 TCM reflash done last year and during our last road trip (a week ago!) we noticed harsh downshifts 6 to 5 when under load. Not happy....!

Saw the 2015 TCM reflash, which seems to be aimed specifically toward the 6-5 downshift issues. Puzzled!

Supposedly it can take a few hundred miles for the shift adaptives to "learn" after a reset, have you driven that far?
I had similar issues and the flash sorted me out, but 21-045-15 was specifically for the heavier hemi/diesel trans.

As soon as I said rough shifts my dealer said they'd flash 21-045-15, no investigation needed.

I had similar issues and the flash sorted me out, but 21-045-15 was specifically for the heavier hemi/diesel trans.

I had 21-027-15c flashed for my V6 at about 2500 miles back in Nov. My rough downshifts were eliminated for about 2 weeks and then came back. I let it go for about 3 mos and just recently tried another dealership where they acknowledged the issue but said no error codes were found and they did an adaptive relearn. Shifted SLIGHTLY better but nothing that makes me happy. I also get a new 2-3 harsh upshift when tranny is cold or jeep has sat for 5-8 hours. Interesting enough, the rough 2-3 upshift began literally right after i tried sport mode for the first time. While sport mode up shifts great for me, i feel the "bump" every single gear downshifting when coming to a stop. Needless to say, I'm unable to tolerate sport mode

I've even called Jeep customer care and was very disappointed when both reps tried to explain to me that they are waiting for new TSB updates for their 9-speed transmissions.. I told them, you know the VIN i gave you is for my JGC 8 speed NOT a 9 speed. They then told me to try another dealership and maybe I'll have better luck. I said, I didnt think that was a very practical solution for someone who has already been to 2 different dealerships on 3 separate occasions. My most recent call to them, i was told to go back to the dealership and call them when I'm there as there are no error codes being thrown and there isnt much else they can do. I've read that valve body replacement is next but that rarely that eliminates the issue.

I'm really at a loss honestly. I guess wait and hope for another TSB that will most likely solve my issues for a week or two before resurfacing? This is my first new car in 10 years and I was soo excited to get this thing...what a bummer!

recap of my issues:
2-3 slams into gear when cold or tranny temp is 130 or lower
6-5 and 5-4 downshift bump about 75-80% of the time when coming to a stop.

Re: Higher gear rough downshift 2015 JGC

Just an update on my issues.

Had the relearn performed for my rough 2-3 upshift and rough 6-5 and 5-4 downshift at approx 4500 miles on my new 2015 JGC limited 4x4 quadlift II. At approx. 5300 miles or 2 weeks later, it seems my rough downshifting has dramatically decreased. I still get a rough 2-3 upshift when cold only but the downshifting harshness has not occurred in the past 3 days. I was very pessimistic when i read that some people took 5-10k miles before the AL smoothed out the transmission but after the past 3 days I'm starting to feel this thing definitely shifting smoother.

If anyone else is having similar issues, don't be discouraged and keep driving until things hopefully smooth out for you. I'm hoping that my harsh cold 2-3 upshift smooths out as well but i suppose time will tell.

Re: Higher gear rough downshift 2015 JGC

Another update if anyone cares, haha

Back to my usual 6-5 and 5-4 downshift jerk when coming to a stop. As the weather warms up down here in FL the upshift from 2-3 is not quite as bad but the downshift jerking is definitely back 85% of the time.

Jeep customer care tells me no error codes mean they cant do anything. Dealership just tells me that's how they are intended to run which I just refuse to accept.

I'm at 5500 miles on my 2015 JGC build date 3/15 bought in 10/15

My '15 Overland has the rough 1-2, and 2-3 upshift, which appeared around 4k miles. Definitely temperature related. Mine begins to shift smoothly out once the transmission fluid reached about 110 degrees. Not happy, as my '14 Limited never did this. I'm thinking about switching out the transmission fluid to Red Line, to see if that helps.

Re: Higher gear rough downshift 2015 JGC

Had the 2-3 upshift problem back in the fall. Dealer replaced the valve body with an updated version. 2-3 upshift was corrected, but several days later developed a harsh 4-3 downshift. Dealer re-learned the tranny. Since then no problems.

Re: Higher gear rough downshift 2015 JGC

This morning in 70 degree plus FL weather my 2-3 upshift leaving my house today was so harsh i though i lost my tranny. I've officially decided after 5800 miles and 4 mos of pretending this issue isnt as bad as it really is that I'm pursuing FL lemon law on this 2015 4x4 limited JGC. Dropping off at the dealership today to let them play with it a 4th time before i send my certified mail to FCA.

i wanted to love this vehicle so bad but I'm just tired of dreading getting into this thing every morning, afternoon and evening.
