Hit a massive pothole!

A few months ago I hit a foot deep pothole that would make even the most seasoned driver cringe. I hit it at about 70mph. It was so bad that I pulled over to check to see if I delaminated the tire. Tire and wheel are fine, vehicle does not shake or pull. I was looking at it yesterday and noticed that just the drivers side front tire (the one that hit the hole) is cupping on the outside. The tire is tilted in a little at the bottom and is sticking out slightly more on the top than the other side.

Keep in mind, I have driven the vehicle about 6000 miles since this happened, and the tire is not cupped horribly but certainly noticeable.

I checked the toein on it, and that is perfect within specs.

What are the chances this caused major damage?

Re: Hit a massive pothole!

Cupped tires are usually caused by a bad shock.

Not a camber issue?

Re: Hit a massive pothole!

Alignment issues can also cause cupping. Also possible the strut/suspension was damaged or weakened with that hit.

Probably the cheapest first step is to have the alignment checked and see if its way out whack from that hit.

Re: Hit a massive pothole!

If I hit a pothole that big, I would have assumed right off the bat that the tire was damaged (broken belt).

Re: Hit a massive pothole!

I brought the jeep in for an alignment. As suspected, the camber was off on the front drivers side. It was positive 1.3*. The tech adjusted it to maximum negative which only brought it to .8*. It is a half of a degree better but still .2 out of maximum positive spec. Do you think this will still cause an issue?

Something's bent. It's never a good idea to drive around without knowing what...
