Hitch fitment issues

https://youtu.be/R4oWuYQtbJw

So I attempt to tow a small 5x8 trailer and ran into a very weird problem. I am not a expert with towing, actually I have probably only towed 10 trailers in my whole life.
But this was not normal. The play in the hitchcaused that little trailer to bounce around so bad it felt like a gorilla was tossing the truck around. Drove the guy from ace/uhaul 20 feet before he gave me the wtf face.
Swapped out 3 hitch/ball things from the store and all had the same amount of play.

Why????

Re: Hitch fitment issues

But how? 2 inches seems to be standard. It's a oem hitch

Or those uhaul ball mounts are total junk.

Re: Hitch fitment issues

Definitely an issue with the receiver end.
Must have been a defective part for sure.

Re: Hitch fitment issues

The hitch itself is causing the rattle, search on here you'll see a lot of complaints about it. My 13 does it no matter what setup I try.

I don't know why there's so much play in the receiver....but one of these will fix it. Anti-Rattle!!! some of these you will have to drill a second smaller hole in the hitch...it would probably work better but you may weaken the hitch strength.

Re: Hitch fitment issues

Mine was making all kinds of noise. I thought it was because an SUV is directly under the inside of the cabin, while a pickup truck is outside and isolated from the cab. I checked my trailer three times to make sure everything was tight. It's the same receiver I use on my Dakota, no problem there.

I thought about sticking some inner tube in there.

Re: Hitch fitment issues

My bike rack has an expansion ball that I crank out to tighten it in the hitch. It's a 2" rack, and it's so loose, that my bikes would probably bounce off without the expander. I think it's just the hitch they use, and they're all sloppy.
