Hitch Rattle solved

I recently had to make a trip pulling a small trailer. The hitch rattle on my new Overland was enough to drive me crazy. Most of this was due to pulling an unloaded trailer, but later, even a lightly loaded trailer was pretty bad. I also had this problem with my "old" SUV....and I trailer ALLOT - especially in the summer.....so I went shopping for a solution on the web.

I found a product called Hitch-Vise at www.hitchrider.com. After reading some favorable reviews I bought it for $30 plus shipping. It came in a few days, and it sure is built tough and it looks like they thought of most everything on this product. (unlike some of the other stuff I saw on-line).

I installed it yesterday to determine it's suitability. It's just a matter of slipping it over the ball mount (draw bar) before installing into the receiver. Then about two turns with a 9/16" wrench takes up all the slack each time you need to use your hitch (after the initial install which requires a few more turns on a wrench).

This product took up all the loose-fit issues and stopped all the rattle between my receiver and ball-mount. It appears as durable as a rock with any load. This solves the issue and will last a looong time IMO.

I'm not affiliated in any way with this product.....just a good solution to an issue I had with my new Overland.

good info! I have a noisy utility trailer and I was wondering WTF I could do to stop the noise, I will have to invest in one of these devices!

Re: Hitch Rattle solved

Awesome find. I need one of those too! Seems like the new jeep has a very loose hitch and the hitches really make a racket.

Re: Hitch Rattle solved

There are a few other options as well. What I like about some of these other options is the clean fit and ease of use but they do cost more and restrict you to one ball mount size unless you opt for the adjustable unit.

Re: Hitch Rattle solved

Yes, this is a very annoying noise when towing a trailer. This will be the best $30 bucks spent to date! Thanks OP for the heads up

Re: Hitch Rattle solved

Your local U-Haul also has a "silent hitch" mount for under $20. After looking for an anti-rattle hitch pin from NAPA, Pep Boys, Autozone, etc... (none of those places had anything)

The top image is the actual product. (the bottom image doesn't have the lock system but shows how it functions)

Re: Hitch Rattle solved

sorry to bring this old thread to life, but i just bought the mopar hitch mount adapter and it seems to be a bit lose and rattles and wobbles a bit.
Is this normal? and what can i do to solve this?
is this safe to tow something when the adapter is lose and not tighten?
