Horrible Jeep Experience so far

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forums. So here's my story concerning Jeep. I had a 2011 laredo with the hemi and loved it. I gave that to my sister who moved out to Iowa. Anyways, I bought a '14 diesel limited in November. So far the thing has been into the dealer for starting problems 6 times now. The dealer has finally said they will replace the bad starter motor. Since I've been talking to the dealer about how unacceptable this is (a new car that works maybe 80% of the time), they are trying to find a way to get me into a new Jeep (will have to be 2015).

My worries are this:

If I keep the diesel, I really have no confidence in this car to get me to work or I'll be left stranded. The dealer only has Penastar V6 models and is considering a trade. My concerns are transmission issues people seem to have with the V6 models. So should I stick with the diesel or go for the V6 and deal with the potential transmission problems. Thoughts?

Welcome. I can only speak myself. My prior MY11 and current MY15 both had/have Pentastar engines. No transmission problems for either 5 speed (2011) or 8 speed (2015). The 8 speed is a huge performance improvement.

Thank you for the welcome. I'm not sure on the specifics, but don't the V8 and Diesel have a different transmission than the V6? I love the transmission in the diesel.

Yes. My point is, don't worry about the transmission with the V-6.

Re: Horrible Jeep Experience so far

The only problem you might have with the V6 transmission is that it can be a bit "jerky" but if that happens then you take it to the dealer and have them reset the transmission (there is a TSB for the V6 transmissions to reset the shift points I forgot what it was called). Ive had my 2014 for about 17K miles which is about a year and thats the only thing that I had to do to the transmission. Other than that the V6 transmission works fine.

Yup. I'm going to get this TSB on my 2015 JGC Overland V6 tomorrow morning.

These could be the potential TSB's

Re: Horrible Jeep Experience so far

If you're that worried about a diesel, the dealer can't get you a V8 or let you order one? You will notice the difference in torque between the diesel and the Pentastar.

Go with the V6. Diesels suck. We've had no problems at all with our 14.
12,000 miles...1.5 years.

Opinions vary. Have ZERO problems with my '14 diesel. 7 months old, 18,790 miles.

My '14 diesel (May build) has also had no problems of any sort. It was a test drive of the diesel that sold me on choosing a GC, and the diesel engine is my favorite feature of the vehicle after 7 months of driving.

It sounds like my 15 Diesel might have the same issue as yours. It arrived at the dealer Tuesday. I picked it up Wednesday and drove/started several times (test drive, back to work, home). I go your Thursday morning and it wouldn't start. The starter wouldn't even engage. It was hauled to the dealer on a flat bed with about 50 miles on it. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy about the vehicle I waited months for. We'll see what the dealer says. They can't even look at it until next week.

Re: Horrible Jeep Experience so far

A bad starter is really no big deal. Yes it sucks, it's annoying, but if is just the starter it can be fixed.

My '14 Overland(April build) diesel has 7600 in 3 months and no problems. Our '14 summit(May build) v-6 is great also. My wife commutes with the Summit and she has had no transmission issues.
